本作が録音された「かまくら落語会」は地域の落語会として四十五年前に始まった。
近年は盛況が続き、チケットの選別方法に抽選を導入して十三年になる。
会が始まった頃に桂小文枝師匠(五代目桂文枝)の高座に私が強く惹かれたことが、会と上方落語のつながりの発端となった。四半世紀にわたって合計十九回出演された文枝師匠には、会の礎を作り、育てていただいた。
その後重なって来演していた桂吉朝師匠が、若くして病に倒れられてしまったが、上方落語を楽しむ伝統はその後も途切れず、山本進さんの推薦もあって桂文我師匠にその任を担っていただいている。
学者肌の文我師匠には、「復活珍品 上方落語選集 3巻」(燃焼社)から、「おやこ寄席 らくごCD絵本」(小学館)まで幅広い著作があり、埋もれている噺、他に喋る人がいないような噺も、数多く演じられる。
CDに収録されている「古事記」もその一つだろう。不勉強で文献としての古事記に触れたことがない私はこれを聴いた時、小学生の頃日本の神話として見聞きしたものに再会したような懐かしさを感じたものだった。
同じその会で「古事記」を聴いた女性が「噺が黄泉比良坂(よもつひらさか)までたどりついて満足しました」との便りをくれた。
その人の出身地の実家が、松江市東出雲町の黄泉比良坂の地とされる所から4キロだとあとから聞いた。かまくら落語会には多彩なお客様がいて、深く独自な受け止め方をしているらしいと、世話人として日頃から感じているが、これもその体験だった。
最後に私事になるが、私は文我師匠に進められて「かまくら落語会―いまから昔から」という本を青蛙房から出すことができた。東日本大震災の翌日に開いたかまくら落語会の打ち上げで、引っ込み思案の私がすぐに気持ちよく、執筆する気にさせられた。それは、文我師匠の巧みな、というより真摯な勧めのおかげだった。

昭和五十四年、桂枝雀に入門し、二年経って、内弟子を開けた頃、「お話おじさんと呼ばれてもええから、とにかく、数多くのネタを覚えて、上演しなさい」と言われ、それを実践してきたが、「塵も積もれば、山となる」の譬えの通り、上演したネタは五百席を越え、今も増え続けている。
ネタの数を絞り、それに磨きをかける方が良いとも思うが、ネタの在庫が多い方が、落語の内容から学べることも多く、様々な要請の応対も出来るのは当然のことだ。
落語会の録音が、いろんな方のご協力・お勧めに依り、二十年以前からCD・テープを数多くリリースすることができた。
但し、それらは私のネタの集合であり、会全体の雰囲気を伝えるものではない。
以前から、会主・世話人の挨拶・お礼、助演者の落語も含めたCDを作りたいと考えていたが、実現が難しく、半ば諦めかけていたが、この度、パンローリングから発売できることに相なった。
関東で落語会の老舗と言っても過言ではない、かまくら落語会の録音が採用されたことが嬉しく、岡崎誠先生の最初の挨拶に始まり、お礼の言葉でお開きとなる、かまくら落語会独特の温かい雰囲気を味わっていたく内に、会の当日の座席に座っているような錯覚を覚えていただければ、幸いである。
落語のCDでも、このような楽しみ方があるという見本を、次々とリリースできれば、「噺家冥利に尽きる」と言っても過言ではない。
