018. Driving Risks and Precautions for Older Adults: Interview with Dr. Kanah Lewallen

In this episode, Cassandra Vonnes, DNP, GNP-BC, APRN, AOCNP, CPHQ, FAHA, a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, and member of the GAPNA Communication Team, talks with Kanah Lewallen, DNP, AGPCNP-BC, a nurse practitioner at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, and recipient of the Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing Excellence from the National Hartford Centers for Gerontological Nursing Excellence.

Dr. Lewallen discusses possible physiological components of aging that increase the risk of a motor vehicle accident, driving safety tips for older adults, screening protocols for driving ability of older adults, and advice for family members with older adults who wish to continue driving.

Kanah Lewallen, DNP, AGPCNP-BC, is a Nurse Practitioner at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee, and recipient of the Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing Excellence from the National Hartford Centers for Gerontological Nursing Excellence.

Cassandra Vonnes, DNP, GNP-BC, APRN, AOCNP, CPHQ, FAHA, is the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) Coordinator, Geriatric Oncology, at the Moffitt Cancer Center, in Tampa, Florida. She is a member of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association Communication Team and is a host of the GAPNA Chat podcast series.
