昆虫採取が趣味の教員F先生が仲間2人とある山に登った。もちろん昆虫が目当てなのだがなかなかお目当ての虫が見つからない。3人は分かれて別々に頂上を目指すことになる。
ところが途中、F先生は20人ほどの奇妙な集団の道案内をすることになった。しかしこの集団、とてつもない違和感が…。

1982年、大阪芸術大学映像計画学科卒業。映画の助監督や黒澤明監督の『乱』のメイキングの演出などに携わる。
1990年、扶桑社から木原浩勝との共著で『新耳袋~あなたの隣の怖い話』で作家デビュー。『新耳袋』はそれまでただ怪談で括られていたものから、実話だけにこだわり百物語を一冊の著書で実現化させた。
『新耳袋』は後にメディアファクトリーより全十夜のシリーズとなり復刊。『怪談新耳袋』として映画やドラマ、コミックとして展開。
Jホラーブームを作った作家や映画監督に大きな影響を与え、ブームをけん引することになる。
著書に『怪異異聞録・なまなりさん』『怪談実話系』『怪談狩り』シリーズなどがある。
