Немного вальяжный и ленивый, немного циничный но, в общем, и целом просто "добрый малый" - Евгений Онегин. Именно о таком мечтала уездная барышня Татьяна "все для мечтательницы нежной в единый образ облеклись, в одном Онегине слились".

Но молодой аристократ по началу ведет себя отнюдь не по-джентельменски и, в конце концов, сам страдает от своей бессердечности, когда позже, повстречав Татьяну на светском рауте, влюбляется в нее без ума. Однако в ответ на все свои признания получает короткое и однозначное: " но я другому отдана и буду век ему верна".

The text is rendered clearly with no over-emoting, which is much appreciated (there is a reading available on YouTube by the wonderful actor Smoktunovsky who, unfortunately, puts too much attitude into it). Pushkin's writing carries enough weight and emphasis on its own without needing any overlain interpretation! It's very helpful to have all accentuation clearly pronounced as correct accentuation is certainly a tough issue with Russian and printed copies of Russian texts, except for scholastic editions, will never indicate it (no diacritical marks). I love this audible book! It's very helpful to be able to listen to the poem while reading it.

In my opinion no other literary creation resonates so deeply with Russian soul. It comes to you again and again…and every time it takes you to a journey you don’t want to ever leave. Pushkin forever.
