In the early hours of a quiet weekend morning in Manhattan's Diamond District, a brutal triple murder shocks the city. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs quickly take the case. Curiously, the killer has left behind a half-million dollars' worth of gems at the murder scene, a jewelry store on 47th street. As more crimes follow, it becomes clear that the killer's target is not gems but engaged couples themselves.

I buy Seaver’s books thinking maybe he has slowed his roll with the crazy, way too complicated at the end plots. But no. I overcame the narrator, who is always sounding breathless and not at all like I imagine Rhyme to be. I liked some of the characters and though, ok, he has learned to not get ridiculous with his plots. Sadly, no. Last one if this series for me.

My grandson, 5 years old, loved this book. He followed the story intently, with a dreamy look in his eyes as Ros’s adventures unfolded. The story was a perfect length, and we listened when traveling to and from school, and when I had chores and He couldn’t participate in. It was exactly what I was looking for when I browsed the Children’s books.

As does Rachel herself. As a long time Lehane fan, I was disappointed. If you liked the Goldfinch, this is perfect for you. The story was depressing and boring. I persisted through half of the book, more than I usually allow, but just found myself dreading putting in my headphones to listen. Sorry, I hate to be so negative, but it's a rare book that makes me feel I wish I hadn't purchased it.

When Kristin Chapman agrees to let her husband, Richard, host his brother's bachelor party, she expects a certain amount of debauchery. She brings their young daughter to Manhattan for the evening, leaving her Westchester home to the men and their hired entertainment. What she does not expect is this: bacchanalian drunkenness, her husband sharing a dangerously intimate moment in the guest room, and two women stabbing and killing their Russian bodyguards before driving off into the night.
