I had the thought today that Mr Charles Finch must be a brilliant man. His writing, knowledge, research and confidence shine through. I think it is wonderfully wonderful he has chosen to be a mystery writer when I've no doubt he could have chosen any of number of other professions. Thank you, Mr Finch!

different in all good ways. nothing run of the mill here. the characters are very well developed and they all make mistakes. no one character has all the answers. plot is clever without being dull. well done, indeed

I loved this story and it's perfect with Halloween approaching. It was fun/scary not scary/scary. There are some real gems in Mr Edward's writing, little snippets that grab me. My favorite was (and this is from my poor memory banks) 'the tension was thick between them, like 2 scissors fighting'

I pity Ms Pinborough the job of writing her next mystery. How can it possibly get better than this book? It's a great read even if it didn't have great surprises, but thankfully it has just exactly that. I simultaneously can't wait for her next book and dread the thought it will be second rate. I envy those who are about to listen for the first time.
