In John Updike's twentieth novel, the 78-year-old painter Hope Chafetz, who in the course of her eventful life has been Hope Ouderkirk, Hope McCoy, and Hope Holloway, answers questions put to her by a New York interviewer named Kathryn, and recapitulates, throughout the story of her own career, the triumphant, poignant saga of postwar American art.

This unprecedented audio project is as thought-provoking as it is mesmeric. The Night Listener is a meditation on the power of voices and the faith we place in them, and an extraordinary audio experience from an American literary icon.

This book started out with quite a bit of promise...It's not a bad listen if you are not offended by graphic discriptions of very gratuitous gay sex.

By the end you wish the protagonist would just quite crying all the time and get a life...

Thespian Narrator

The story is pretty good, although the cliff hangers are way to predictable. The narrator makes me want to turn it off. It sounds like a high school theatrical reading. He's got a great voice, but his characterizations leave much to be desired...

A new world order is taking shape. Only one man can stop it. Pray that he will succeed. The Prometheus Deception is classic Ludlum - a world of murderous wheels within wheels where nothing and no one are what they appear, and violence and sudden death lurk around every corner. Also available abridged.

Movie Script

Very generic. It sounds like he is writing a movie script. Sometimes you just want to strangle the protagonist for being such a slow idiot. For Ludlum, it's a stinker.
