Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil god Torak sought dominion and drove men and Gods to war. But Belgrath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. That was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the man without a shadow had haunted him for years.

Growing up this one of my favorite pre-teen and early teen reads.

Although we create voices, accents, and language dialects in our heads while we read a book the narrator in of
this book butchered the characters. Character voices were confused, lost, and jumbled as if the narrator didn't know which character was present or he was rushed. It's a pity because I have no interest finishing this wonderful story to its end.
