The narrator was perfection. He captured every nuance with his cadence, emphasis and tone. His characterizations were thoroughly delightful.

this was a great book and i enjoyed it from beginning to end my only complaint is that the character's, the cities and races names were unusual and difficult to remember so I didn't know who the author was talking about when the story shifted from scene to scene. I ended up writing down the various titles and names and even then i became confused occasionally. such is the case when you read about fictional lands and people.

I enjoyed the world that these characters lived in. I wish there was more of that and less Sid the "romance" which was so drawn out that it wasn't more about than romantic. I was more engaged in the story and eager to get answers to the numerous mysteries that developed through the story. The final scene where all was revealed was a big fat disappointment. Like a sneeze that never happened. completely lame.

Michael was depicted as a cranky, whiney hero via the female tone of the narrators voice. sucked the romance out of the story.

after more than a year listening to black Daggerhood, Dark, and immortals after dark, I've had a hard finding a paranormal romance narrated by a man that has an engaging story and good narration, but scent of darkness was pretty entertaining. I loved the H and h and surprisingly, i laughed out loud because of their banner and very human qualities. i will read the next step in hopes that it will add the heft that was missing in the 1st book. not unusual when starting a series as e author has to explain the history, introduce characters and establish the larger plot.

Im a huge Holter Graham fan and started this series because of him but he was REALLY off work this book. His pauses and cadence was super annoying and his voices for the various characters were confusing. I couldn't figure out who was who. Also the book is a look into equestrian life and had chapters dedicated to breeding, riding and general horse raising knowledge. since I don't know anything about that works it was boring. it didn't suck me in and spark my curiosity because it's was delivered as if the reader was already knowledgeable. ive loved all the other installments and adore HG's narration so I will be starting the next book asap.
