Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever. Obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical, society-wide, health-related problems. With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup.

I think it should be on the reading list for everyone in the medical nutritional and fitness fields. It is astounding to me the lack of knowledge that professionals have about nutrition and how it affects the body and health. It just makes sense that different types of food affect the body differently chemically and hormonally. Gary taubes does an excellent job of reporting the facts and the history without bias or emotion. You can tell he lays out both sides of the argument and gives you the information to decide.

The enemy is poised at the border with an overwhelming invasion force, and it will take wizards, soldiers and a young, untested princess to hold off defeat long enough for Koren to be trained and grow into his power. But he might not wish to help those who deceived him and destroyed his life.

I got into this series after listening to the Expeditionary Force series & loving the author. These books, while different (fantasy & magic instead of Sci-fi) are better. I usually prefer sci-fi over fantasy, but these stories (so far) are extremely well written. Great performance by the narrator as well.

For over a century, we've accepted the scientific consensus that cancer results from genetic disease due to chromosomal damage in cell nuclei. But what if scientists are chasing a flawed paradigm? What if cancer isn't a disease of damaged DNA but rather of defective metabolism as a result of mitochondrial dysfunction? What if that startling truth could revolutionize our understanding of other diseases, too - and show us a radical new path to optimal health?

Why we think it’s a great listen: Want to join the “superhumans”? Luckily you don’t have to run to catch up with them, thanks to McDougall’s and Sanders’ inspiring (and motivating) journey through history, science, physiology, health, entertaining characters and unlikely friendships. Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure.
