This was a really good book, up until the final 2-3 chapters. Why in the world it was ever edited the way it is baffles me. The story very different from the movie, but that is not a bad thing. I found it very addicting and looked forward to listening to in on my drive to and from work. It also did a good job of imaging what it was like on the frontier back in 1800s America and what it would be like on our rivers during the fur trade. The final chapters though did not make sense to me, it ends awkwardly on a secondary character. It easily could have been edited to end on the main character and would have flowed much better. Ha, is it too late to edit the book?

This was a solid listen. It was neat to hear more about a part and history of the world not covered in US public education. The only negative is that it was a bit dry. But overall I am glad I listened to it. I would recommend it, just don't expect to be blown away.

Rainn founded a website and media company, SoulPancake, that eventually became a best-selling book of the same name. He also started a hilarious Twitter feed (sample tweet: "I'm not on Facebook" is the new "I don't even own a TV") that now has more than four million followers.

Just because I am OCD and listened to the first book I had to finish out this series. This was better than the first book, but I could still not get in to this book. Something about the fact that it is completely different than the movie really gets to me. I don't know why, I have encountered this at other times in my life. Perhaps because Jurassic Park the movie was so iconic of my childhood anything different is just sub-par. I don't know.
