For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.

As one who has loved the marshes, forests, and beaches of Georgia’s barrier islands and written three books about them, I found this book simply captivating. The understanding and respect with which nature was treated was wonderful. The marshes, their plants, birds, and animals became characters as important to the plot as Kaya and Tate.

Not to give away too much, but the blending of two settings decades apart that gradually merged into one was handled deftly.

The narrator does a skillful job of voicing the rather large cast of characters. She is easy to listen to, and for once, portrayed a Southern accent in a way that didn’t make me cringe. I thank her for that!

I’m already planning to listen to this book again as I’m sure there is more to discover in its depths. A truly beautiful book!

Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, and Ebenezer Scrooge come to marvelous life in Patrick Stewart's critically-acclaimed solo interpretation of A Christmas Carol. The star of X-Men and The Royal Shakespeare Company, Stewart has performed his one-man stage production of this holiday classic to sell-out audiences.

Just before Christmas in 1843, a debt-ridden and dispirited Charles Dickens wrote a small book he hoped would keep his creditors at bay. His publisher turned it down, so Dickens used what little money he had to put out A Christmas Carol himself. He worried it might be the end of his career as a novelist. The book immediately caused a sensation. And it breathed new life into a holiday that had fallen into disfavor, undermined by lingering Puritanism and the cold modernity of the Industrial Revolution.

I learned so much from this enjoyable tale of a master storyteller. The narrator's voice, pleasantly expressive, effectively brought characters to life and kept interest alive throughout the book. I was fascinated the entire time, and I was delighted to discover connections between Dickens and his Carol that I never knew before. Excellent book and narration!
