Any additional comments?

One of the most terrifying novels I have ever listened to. Susan Hill is a master story teller and has proven that blood and gore is not needed for a terrifying story. The ghost story is a lost art, and Hill has used the timeless ghost story elements that can make grown men quiver. Moreover, this story was scary because of its atmosphere of menace. Paul Ansdell is an excellent narrator as well. He really brings Arthur Kipps to life in his narration and his inflection at the scary points made me feel as though Arthur was really in danger. Unlike a gore story, this story will haunt its listeners for many moons. I wouldn't recommend this children under 13, unless the child has a strong nerve. I thought I was far to old for ghost stories. But this story scared me so badly that I found my eyes darting around my bedroom for many nights after I had finished it, looking for the woman in black.

At first I was a bit unsure about this novel, being based of a screenplay. But it very much surprised me. It was a delightfully full novel with incredibly real characters. It was dark and serious at times and at others soft and sweet. Erin Moon is brilliant in her narration and no two characters sound alike. However, I must warn any new buyer that it isn't finished. You wont get the full ending until after March 14 after the movie has aired. Then, as the audio tells you, go to the website so you can get the bonus chapter for the complete ending. But anyway, it is a wonderful novel that is so dark and rich I would buy it again. This is one fairy tale that has come into a whole new light.

This book was amazing! Neil Gaiman is an excellent writer and narrator. He can make each voice original to each character, and the story itself is completely mesmerizing! One you start listening you'll be hook. But it can be a bit strange and somewhat dark in places. Best keep it for kids no younger than five. But otherwise it is a must read!! If you loved Coraline then you'll love this too!!!
