Emma Prince is an excellent Highland romance novelist. This 3rd book in the series is the best so far due to its authentic historical events. I believe that makes a book so much more interesting. Though I’m not a history buff exactly I do enjoy learning. I would be hard pressed to pick the best of the 3 in this series! The narrator, Mr. Tim Campbell, is new to me but he is my new favorite narrator. I can’t wait for number 4 in this series, assuming there is one!

It began on New Year's Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world's population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max.

I gave this book 4 stars because I truly loved what I have read so far. However I feel like I've been cheated. The book does not end; it just quits. I understand that there MAY be another book in the series but this one could have stopped at a different point. I generally do not care about apocalyptic books but this one is different from the usual run of the mill stories. Julia Whelan did a great job of narrating and I look forward to hearing more from her. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors which is why I purchased this book in the first place. If the next book doesn't come out soon I will forget all about it and go on to some other series because series books are my favorite. PLEASE MS ROBERTS!!

A golden time - that's what Chris Anderson, his brother Aaron, and their friends expected of that final summer. Freedom, and lazy, pleasure-filled days before the responsibilities of college and career. An idyll in their newfound private place on the shores of three small lakes. But Tri-Lakes is no oasis. A millennium ago it became the focal point of a powerfully malevolent force, and the remnants of an ancient Viking bloodfeud. Hatred is its source. Blood gives it power. And only sacrifice can banish it.

This book is probably classified as young adult but I found it to be very good adult reading. Most of it is written in the first person of the main character, Chris Anderson, who is a college freshman with the usual array of friends but the story is not about the usual college experience. The author paints a picture you can see as the plot unfolds and the narrator brings out the feelings of the characters. Suspenseful at times with a surprise ending that could be no other way.

Without expecting it, she finds love. It challenges her to recognize her own worth - at the risk of revealing the terrible secret she’s desperate to hide.

Where does Reason to Breathe rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to probably hundreds of audiobooks over the years and I must honestly say that this one made the biggest impression on me for it's content and explicit, graphic details that are only appropriate for mature readers. I spent almost as much time crying as listening but still could not start the next book in the series quickly enough.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This book is all about Emily/Emma but her friend Sarah and boyfriend Evan are also prominent in all three books. I cried over Emma throughout this book but liked her best of all.

What does Kate Rudd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kate Rudd made the characters come alive - not just Emma but also Sarah, Evan, Rachel, Jonathan, and even the despicable, cruel, sadistic Carol.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I cannot imagine even a remote possibility of this book ever being made into a movie.

Any additional comments?

I will remember this book for a long, long time.

Would you consider the audio edition of Out of Breath to be better than the print version?

I loved this series from the first page of the first book to the last page of the third book. I spent much of this series crying but then I am more emotional than most people. I enjoyed the audio versons because if I had been reading I would have lost my place over and over due to my tears.

What other book might you compare Out of Breath to and why?

I would not compare this series to any other that I have ever read or heard because of the insight the author had about a sensitive subject. The characters were so well written that I felt a personal affinity with each and every one of them. Each book left me anxious to start the next one and the ending of this the last book in the series tued up all loose ends and made me feel comfortable about moving on to another book in another genre.

What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?

Kate Rudd did an excellent performance when portraying each character. It was easy to tell from her voice which character was speaking as the books are all written in the first person. This can be difficult to maintain for every character in a book but Kate Rudd made the transition seamlessly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had to take breaks from time to time due to the reality of my daily life and by the time I finished this one I realized I could not have listened to any one of them in one sitting due to the extreme emotions invoked.

Any additional comments?

At some point in time I will revisit these books and listen all over again. For me, the second time is sometimes better after I have listened to several other books in several different genres. These books are not for the soft hearted or for anyone other than mature adults. I loved them all!!

What made the experience of listening to Much Ado About Highlanders the most enjoyable?

The story was great, the narrator was great and it was just the right length.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Much Ado About Highlanders?

The most memorablel moments came in the last 15 minutes and also tied up all loose ends. I was left wanting more and can't wait to hear the second book in the series.

What about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance did you like?

I forgot she was just the narrator. Her voice brought each character to life and I could recognize each character with the first few words.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually listened to this book in one day as I went about my day at home around the house inside and outside, and even at the grocery store.

Any additional comments?

I am addicted to Highland stories to the extent that I am studying Gaelic even though all the Audible books are in Engish. This story left me wanting more from this author and also this narrator. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I am addicted (though I hesitated to use that word) to Highland novels, the longer the better, and the content of this one was excellent as all Vonda Sinclair's novels are. I listen on my cell phone as often as I can and that makes my daily tasks more enjoyable. Can't wait to hear the second book in this series as I am also addicted to series novels!

What did you like best about this story?

Highland settings are my favorite.

What didn’t you like about Andrew Bryan’s performance?

Mr. Bryan's accent was perfect but when narrating the words of Allistaire his voice is the same whether the character is whispering or shouting. This was a little discerting for me.

Do you think My Fierce Highlander needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Though this could very well be a stand alone book, as a series addict I never want any book to end. I try to choose series books for this reason.
