It's winter in the Catskills and Mitchell's Inn, nestled deep in the woods, is the perfect setting for a relaxing - maybe even romantic - weekend away. So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity - and all contact with the outside world - the guests settle in and try to make the best of it.Β Soon, though, one of the guests turns up dead - it looks like an accident. But when a second guest dies, they start to panic. Within the snowed-in paradise, something - or someone - is picking off the guests one by one.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

There have been a lot, and I mean that sincerely, of books on the subject of most of: world wiped out, few left, who's good, who's bad and who wins! The details change, where, when, how, but the story remains. No one on this earth has done it better than Mr. Stephan King and his epic " The Stand"
I read this book before the story took place, during and decades after, and it's still the best told of them all! The Superflu or Captain Trips, a little government bug let loose by mistake, perhaps, wiped out most, but not all the good and bad in everything. It's a long story, set aside some time and let narrator Grover Gardner bring this fabulous work alive for you!
The Stand is still my favorite book, I am 58 years old and read it the first time in my teens! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Six Gold Stars

This is one of my favorite King stories, and it's hard to chose because he has so many! This story, The Long Walk, will draw you so far down into the story that you'll think you're walking those miles, listening to the other walkers tell how they got on this game show, because that's really what it is, a walk to death, or the line winner! What kind of world, what kind of people watch human beings walk themselves to death, just for the chance to live without hunger, to have a decent home, a few prizes, be popular for a day? What drives a person to join a thing, a death thing, how desperate would your life be if walking either to death or for a few prizes are your choices? I hope you read this book, it's not one you'll forget anytime soon!

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
