Picture this - I’m ready to win back the love of my life, and I’m going big this time. We’re talking boom box, sing her name in the rain, let the whole damn neighborhood know I'm good and ready this time around. After all, if you're going to grand gesture the ever-loving hell out of a second chance, you need to pull out all the stops. There’s only one little problem. My college girlfriend isn't the one who shows up when I play my "I'll do anything to win you back" tune. The woman who flings open the second-floor window tells me my ex doesn’t live here anymore.

I cant give this less than 1 star but I couldn't finish it. I gave up an hour from the end unable to audibly flaggelate myself further. Kyler is unrealistically obtuse and the Male narrator's reading cadence reminded me of a robot reading British cookbooks. the female narrator was ok compared to others such as Heather Wilds or Tillie Hooper. Compared to the Male narrator she was oscar winning, an absolute virtuoso. The entire plot is a bargain bin knock off of John Hughes entire library. it has all the literary prowess of a speak n spell. I did find it ironic that the female character speaks so often on tropes when this book is basically just a compilation of tired, played out and stale tropes. even the main driving plot is a straight up wishfulfillment trope of how every woman wishes the man who done did her wrong learns his lesson and then comes traipsing back to apologize.

nauseatingly bad. awful. just absolutely awful with all the audible pleasure of shoving railroad spikes into your ear drums.

With a modest inheritance and the three gowns that comprise her entire wardrobe, Theodora leaves Edinburgh—and a disappointed suitor—far behind. She is bound for Romania, where tales of vampires are still whispered, to visit an old friend and write the book that will bring her true independence. She arrives at a magnificent, decaying castle in the Carpathians, replete with eccentric inhabitants, including the castle’s master, Count Andrei Dragulescu.

this is my first 5 star all the way review. I couldn't ask for more. everything about this book is perfection. from the perfection of cadence in the narrator to the twists and turns of the plot to the florid and atmospheric wordsmithing. I rarely buy books from the romance package as I can just download them again when I wish to but I will be purchasing this. if you liked wuthering heights, crimson peaks, penny dreadful or any other Victorian horror romance this book is for you. even if you arent a "romance novel fan" this book is for you. I've recommended it to so many people and will continue to do so. so glad I found it.

great story, excellent world building and just enough description without being too raunchy. the only down part was the narrator. he was great as the Male characters but didnt even seem to try for the female characters. I'll still download the rest though!

let's put it on the table. chapters 1-8 are complete throw aways and then the book starts all over again at chapter 1 again. we only revisit Sagan and Valera again as a deus ex machina at the end of Gwin and Maleia's cycle. it really bothered me. Sagan and Valera truly deserved their own book.

in addition to that the climax of the main story such for all 3 books deserved much more attention and detail than it was given which was also a disappointment.

that said, as always Jacqueline Frank writes steamy, curl your toes and squirm in your chair hot love scenes and even with disliking this particular book I'll come back for more.

I hope she thinks on writing longer books in the future, I guess the summation of my gripes with book 3 is that I didnt get to enjoy her talent enough!

At first I wasn't sold. the first 15 minutes of this book were meh. As the story evolved though I was hooked completely. it expertly weaves legend with romance and love and fairy tale. so much so that I actually purchased a hardcover copy of the book to keep on my shelf. I've recommended it to all of my friends. all three stories will capture you and hold tight. I cannot say enough good things about it. and the narrator's performance? superb. in the first story she captures the certain OTHERNESS of Ione and the frustration of Aiden. she subtly curls her words when Laila speaks in the second. all the way up to the very end...just a wonderful experience!!

This book won't curl your toes but it will make your heartache. The author takes a well known poem, Annabell Lee, and stretches it over bone and sinew made of pure romance. it will make you smile. it will make your heart flutter. And it will make you cry. with notes of Beowulf, Wuthering Heights and a pinch of the legend of Rhiannon Sidhe it's a wonderful bouquet of heartstrings to be plucked.
