Both Alberich's skill and secret served him well in the army of Karse, and when Alberich became one of Karse's youngest captains, he received a special gift - a powerful white stallion "liberated" from the enemy. But this honor was merely a distraction, for the Sunpriests had laid a trap that even Alberich's strange foresight could not predict....

I read the books years ago and the audiobook just ads to an already great story. I truly liked the narrators interpretation (despite having had a few names set differently in my head). Funny how listening to the book brings out details I didn’t focus on when I read it (in a good way). Happy to see We don’t have to wait too long for book 2... it’s already preordered.

Luna Allen has done some things she would rather no one ever know about. She also knows that, if she could go back in time, she wouldn’t change a single thing. With three sisters she loves, a job she (mostly) adores, and a family built up of friends she’s made over the years, Luna figures everything has worked out the way it was supposed to. But when one of those secrets involves the man who signs her paycheck, she can’t find it in her to regret it. Despite the fact that he’s not the friendliest man in the world. Or the most patient.

I have owned the boo since the day it was published on amazon... but made myself wait until the Audiobook came out. I’m glad I did! Loved the little touch of Gomez Pugh as Rip’s voice. Callie Dalton is brilliant as usual. Loved the oh so realistic way someone with a broken past approaches a forever relationship, and that both of the leads were strong but imperfect. I always feel like I’m reading about people I’d love to hang out with in person.

When Venick is caught wandering the elflands, he knows the penalty is death. Desperate, he lies about his identity in hopes the elves will spare his life. Ellina doesn't trust the human, and not merely because he speaks the language of men. Men lie. In elvish, however, lying is impossible. In a moment of intuition, Ellina decides to give Venick a chance: learn elvish, reveal his truths, and she will set him free. That is not, of course, what happens.

A good start. A good narrator. I like the different take on elven-human relationships- it’s close enough to the elves of all other storylines that the difference isn’t jarring but it’s fresh. Definitely like the female lead. The story is in no way finished and I will be getting book two.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job? It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild.

A fun, lighthearted mystery thriller with plenty of entertaining quirky side characters a bit like Janet Evanovich. It took until about chapter 2 before I was hooked on the plot but after that it held my interest to the point that I was actually surprised to realize I’d listened to it all in one go. Looking forward to the next one and further development of “the cast”.

I agree with my fellow reviewer that fans of “classic” sci-fi romance are going to like this one as well. The characters are very well rounded, and I love that the heroine has an independent streak. The dialogue between the characters is fun and dare I say this for a paranormal storyline- “very realistic”. Looking forward to more from this author!

Max Robichaux’s thrilling adventures didn’t begin on 21 January 2315 when he took command of the USS Cumberland at the age of 28. Before that date, Max became an expert on battle tactics, the psychology of command and leadership, the customs and fighting techniques of the mysterious and powerful Vaaach race, and more. In June 2304, the 16-year-old green Ensign Max Robichaux is given a small but fast and stealthy ship to penetrate enemy space, observe a mock attack on a new kind of enemy battle station, and return with information on the station, enemy weapons, enemy tactics, and other valuable intelligence.

This is a glimpse into Max as a teenager, giving us tidbits about how his past shaped him into the character we meet in The Man of War series. Should you read this first before the rest of the series? No. Is it required reading to understand the rest of the books in the series? No. Is it a delightful jaunt into the Man of War Universe- absolutely! Would I recommend it to the fans of the main series? Yes. Note that this is read by a different reader than the main series: Though no one can possibly compare to Ray Chase’s version of Hornmeyer, Lawrence Alexander has done a fine job of bringing us young Max.

The path leading to it is riddled with competitors and littered with the dead, and even a cyborg and a Starseer may not be strong enough to fight the obstacles in the way.
