Catherine has been enjoying the single life for long enough to know a good catch when she sees one. Gorgeous, charismatic, spontaneous – Lee seems almost too perfect to be true. And her friends clearly agree, as each in turn falls under his spell. But there is a darker side to Lee. His erratic, controlling and sometimes frightening behaviour means that Catherine is increasingly isolated. Driven into the darkest corner of her world, and trusting no one, she plans a meticulous escape.

Dark and twisted psychological thriller! You have to tough it out the first couple of chapters, and then the sublime madness begins! My favorite listen so far this year!!!

Great story, good mystery, and superb narration! I devoured this book! I thought the narrator was extremely talented -- was surprised that others thought otherwise. I consider myself very picky with narration. Ciulla had distinct voices befitting the various characters. Very engaging! Read it in two days. This was my first Lippman book; I look forward to reading some of her others!!!

Everyone who lives at 23 Beulah Grove has a secret. If they didn't, they wouldn't be renting rooms in a dodgy old building for cash - no credit check, no lease. It's the kind of place you end up when you you've run out of other options. The six residents mostly keep to themselves, but one unbearably hot summer night, a terrible accident pushes them into an uneasy alliance. What they don't know is that one of them is a killer. He's already chosen his next victim, and he'll do anything to protect his secret.

Best book I've listened to all year! Loved all of the characters, especially the protagonist and Cher. Love the interesting situation of all these very different people thrown together in this strange house. Enjoyed changing points of view. Very fun and creepy book!

Toni Murphy was eighteen when she and her boyfriend, Ryan, were wrongly convicted of the murder of her younger sister. Now she is thirty-four and back in her hometown, working every day to forge and adjust to a new life on the outside. She's doing everything in her power to avoid violating her parole and going back to prison. But nothing is making that easy – not Ryan, who is convinced he can figure out the truth; not her mother, who clearly doubts Toni's innocence; and certainly not the group of women who made Toni's life miserable in high school.

What did you like best about this story?

Loved the heroine, the suspense, and the setting. The family dynamics were particularly interesting to me.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I like what they already came up with:"They said she was a murderer. They said she killed her sister. But they lied."

Any additional comments?

I couldn't get into "Still Missing," but I devoured "That Night". Stevens has mastered the art of torturing her darlings. Here she did so in a way that I was able to endure it and maintain hope for Toni. I'm very picky about narrators, but I loved this one. I think she had a bit of a cold, but it didn't bother me as it seemed to other reviewers.
