Jason, Andi, and Lauren - this is fantastic. More than that though, Lauren has made an art of tailoring the audiobook medium to the narrators reading her story - it’s insanely impressive. There’s an amazing amount of creativity in the way Lauren has continually broadened the horizons of audiobooks as a whole. It’s no longer someone reading a book to you, or even acting - it’s an immersive experience, which is majorly enjoyable.

Thanks Lauren, and all the narrators for your books, for the amazing work y’all do.

I need to stop trying to read these. The only semi enjoyable one was Complicated. The men in the story overuse the words “baby”, “babe” like it’s their job. The women are nothing but wispy sighs and passive over thinkers. Maybe this type of story is what a lot of others like but I DNF’ed this one and won’t look for another from KA. I think she could tell good stories without these completely overused and repetitive tropes.

I’ve waited for him for over a decade. Loyalties kept us apart. A death set us free. Our passion unleashed, nothing could stop us. Until my world was rocked - my greatest failure leaving me with my greatest heartbreak. Now Maverick is baring his soul to me, begging me to let him in. God knows I want to, but I love him, and that means I’ll do anything to keep him from the pain haunting me. Even if it destroys us both. Someone has been waiting for this perfect moment to strike. Watching me. Studying me.

I know narrators aren’t supposed to take you out of the story but these two both ripped my heart up with their portrayals of Einstein and Mav. All I could think when the last oak tree scene happened was oh my gawd Jason you are killing me. And Erin - Einstein’s anguish the whole book, I can’t imagine that Erin didn’t need a whopper of a nap after that kind of emotion for ten hours. The book was amazing but the narrators brought it out of this world.

Maxon James understands me in a way others can’t. For as long as I can remember, he’s vowed that one day he would claim my wild, rebel heart. God knows I wanted him to try. I wanted the life he promised me in his lyrics. But his assurances couldn’t change the past, and the infamous mafia blood in my veins guarantees my heart can’t be claimed. Somewhere along the way, I slipped. I let myself believe we could have it all. Now a dark, menacing shadow hovers between us, mocking us for daring to hope for a normal future.

People call me callous. Arrogant. Ruthless. I call myself tenacious. As one of the most powerful attorneys in Charleston, I don’t let anyone or anything stand in my way. Until a chance encounter changes everything. One glance. One touch. One night. It only leaves me wanting more. But Grace is off limits. Most people would even say forbidden. Some parts are good. But holy crap the number of times this tstl heroine should have called 911 and didn’t was obscene. She never apparently figured out that there is a dang RECORDING DEVICE on that phone she carries. She gets assaulted by the ex and then doesn’t even do so much as buy some dang pepper spray - just continues to drive around by herself at night, doesn’t examine her environment before getting out of the car, doesn’t even hypothesize that her rich as hell ex might hire a PI to follow her. Ugh. It is so frustrating to listen to the tstl moments that litter what might have been an otherwise great story.

The male narrators voice is great for men; however he makes all women sound like snotty valley girls. It’s really disconcerting. Amanda Ronconi is fabulous, however.

As for the story, it’s so shallow; usually I can get past some immature actions by the main characters but in this case I was dnf’ing when the main female (slight spoiler) tells someone about sleeping with Vaughn less than 12 hours after he says “we need to keep this quiet”. Seriously? Ugh. 3 hours wasted.
