Jack Lancaster, consultant to the FBI, has always been drawn to the coldest of cold cases, the kind that law enforcement either considers unsolvable or else has chalked up to accidents or suicides. As a survivor of a fire, he finds himself uniquely compelled by arson cases. But the more cases Jack solves, the closer he slips into the darkness. His only solace is Winter Meadows, a meditation therapist. After particularly grisly cases, Winter can lead Jack back to peace. But as long as Quinton Zane is alive, Jack will not be at peace for long.

I truly enjoyed the story of Winter and Jack in this romantic suspense.
Jack and Winters chemistry flew off the pages. The characters came to life, and so did their romance.
The suspense of probability and their encounters as they hunt for clues, kept me riveted to their story to the very end.
Cobb did a fantastic job on the narration of their story!!
Will there be a follow-up? Hoping!

This book portrays a true gothic novel!

The plot is well written, bringing all to a wonderous conclusion.

The author is well talented in the gothic prose.
Although at times a bit long and tedious in words. Making a thought repetitive and extra long in sentences. Plot and story line was entralling.

One thing I did notice about this authors knowledge of this time period, is the true desolation and utter hopelessness and lack of choices in this time.

Women with few choices and horrific outcomes when tradegy does strike a family, especially women in this era.

In her previous books #1,3,4, and five - the practices of blood letting and the truly lack of cleanliness of physician practices are apalling!
Doctors in this time practiced ridiculous treatments to get rid of ill humors affecting the bodies and mind.
Medical practices back then was based on torture.

This time period treated women horribly and it's truly depressing that they managed to survive at all, with no rights.

I am pleased modern medicine has progressed beyond superstition and ill based facts.I

Thanks for a dark gothic story!
Also narration was done brilliantly! 5 stars!!

Now I truly enjoyed two other books from this author with 5 stars, but for This one fell short repetitive, nothing but fanciful longing from the heroine from page one. An utter twit. I was irritated and truly bored!
This book could have been done in half the time it dragged on and on.
Definitely hated it.
Will be returning this audio book.
I read the authors first and 3 rd gothic novel i believe and they were fantastic!
This one, I noted just not up to par of the other dark gothic series!
Really disappointed!

Couldn't wait to listen to this new book in the series and it did not disappoint.
I could not put this book down and it had me on the edge of my seat.
This book continues the romance, suspense and dangers faced by Sam, Nick, Scotty and their friends and families./>The characters are truly loveable and one can really relate to their continuing romance, hard homicide cases and the friends and family members who support and enrich the lives of all in this wonderful series!

Although the horrendous crimes that happened to people is mind boggling, the police solving the case is always amazingly done.

It's true in real life that people never recover from loosing people they love, or the hate, greed or insanity of the criminals in the world that perpetrate such
unspeakable crimes...

Narration was amazing!!

How long to the next audible release????
Can't wait!!!

Waiting for the next installment!!!

Very good book.

I really have enjoyed the Cynster series. This book had romance, suspense and a good conclusion.

The narrator did a good job on the voices.
In the the first Cynster novels, read by Simon P., the matriarch of the Cynster clan
had a French accent. This accent was forgotten by the current narrator, which was a disappointment. I'm not sure if the current narrator has ever listened to the beginning of the series?
I don't appreciate it, when the narrator is changed during the series and the accents and voices change from what you are used to hearing. It leads to inconsistencies when the characters reappear in a future book in the series and sound totally different.

I realize it's not always possible to keep the same narrator for a 15 book series.
I just wish the new narrators would go back to the beginning books and listen to how the reappearing character's voices were portrayed by the previous narrators to keep it consistent.
This narrator still did a good job.

The one thing I have noticed with this series is the repetition of the lead female characters who keep saying "I'm not going to marry you". The repetition seems to be a theme in the cynsters novels and gets annoying when the pages go on and on about it. A lot of time spent on this repetition drags the story down throughout each novel in the series.

Still a fan of Stephanie Laurens.

The author did an amazing job on the extensive family tree which was done for the Cynster series and the others books that are connected to the Cynster Clan.

  • DISAPPOINTMENT on an otherwise splendid series!

  • By Artkeep on 09-07-14

Big disappointment!!!

2 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 04-21-18

This story was very slow, unrealistic, and boring. I was so very disappointed in this story. Out of all the KGI series, this one was the worst one ever written. Very slow,
Boring, sappy and just well uninteresting!

I have loved all the other stories about the KGI team members, but I honestly don't know what M. Banks was thinking when this one was penned.

I would say don't waste your time on this one. I was so disappointed. This story was so slow, unrealistic and really could have had a better back story and action. This book lacks what the other KGI series have which is fast paced action, fear, adventure and of course a great love story!!!

Not to offend anyone, but this is just my honest opinion. Like I said before, this story just lacked everything to make it a great KGI experience.

Now all the other KGI books in the series are awesome!!! And I would highly recommend them. Just not this one book. A dud!! Skip it and you won't miss a thing.

Also, I did not like the narration done by Adam Paul. All the voices of the other team members, we're different from the previous audio versions of them speaking. Ruined the experience!!! Keep the original person who did the other books.

I wish M. Banks would rewrite this story, but I guess it really doesn't matter now.

P.S. Keep up the great JOB on the KGI Series M. Banks---- Just love all the other books in this series. Aloha
