There are bad narrators, mouthy sounding, bad accents, etc.... then there is this atrocity! It sounds as if it were written in three and five word statements rather than actual sentences. The delivery is so stilted and choppy it hurts to listen. And yet it feels rhythmic in its oddly clipped and flat monotone.

I think the story was pretty good.... the idea was! But I found myself listening for punctuation to verify it wasn’t written in short statements rather than sentences.

READ this one, listening promises no enjoyment.

I have to say that it took several starts to finally get into this book far enough to want to stick with it to reach the end. But once I finally got past the breaking point it was well worth it. I enjoyed it in the end.... probably not a book to put into multi listen rotation.... but worth the effort for that first listen.

The narration is just.... bad. Voices are all similar and the male lead is more feminine than the females. It was a truly cute story, although I felt like some of the details were so persistently stressed that it was a bit like beating a dead horse...

But... and it’s a big but, I managed to just listen for a second time. What does that say about my tolerance for squeaky irritating narrators?

But his manners, his infamous self-restraint, and his better judgment fly out the window when he finds himself with the maddening American girl next door.

Note that I didn’t say worst! It was truly the oddest and possibly most bizarre narrative experience ever recorded! The cadence, the odd inflection, the crazy accent.... it wasn’t stilted, or boring, and male female individuals were all distinct but the WAY that they all talked was weird!

Other than that it was truly well written, creatively plotted and developed and executed. What little sex there was was rip roaring hot.

Please, please, listen to her snippets, lots of them, before you spend the money or credit on the Audible version of this story. You are probably better off reading it than listening to Allison Larkin giving everyone crazy speech patterns and bizarre enunciation!

Well written, well narrated! I did not get the feeling that this was written in the 70’s... but I wasn’t reading romance novels then either..., but still. It’s told with great back story to each element or character in the tale. There’s sex but it’s not graphic... it’s just part of the story.

I give this book my recommendation, it’s a little different but isn’t that what makes it unique?

One reviewer had nothing but complaints, she obviously doesn’t pay much attention when listening to a book because each of her complaints were actually effectively dealt with as part of the story line! That’s how it’s done.... creating the plot, filling it out, making reason for action and choice... that’s called writing. But you have to actually read or listen before you state opinions on only a small perception of what the story was....

This was a good book. Not a very good book or a great book or an ok book, but a good book. There was room for more... I kind of missed that more. It made me mad at one point, I mean quite angry!.... I wanted that nasty man to get his comeuppance! but it all works out in the end, the HEA that makes a romance a romance.

Touchy subject for the time, handled well.

Not much heat, plenty of angst.

Definitely don’t regret it, neither will you I hope.

Good narration too.

I like this book, third so far in this series, but....

Let’s start with book one, totally unoriginal but okay.
Book 2 was really good.
Book 3 took on the Duke... and was a very good book. I just felt... kinda of a shoulder shrug, head bobble, and long drawn out okaaaaaayyyy... sort of ending. Hurriedly they introduced the premise for book four however the end, as good as it was, was kind of anti climatic. It could be because I listened to all three in order boom boom boom, and didn’t feel a bang, I suppose.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked it and do recommend it! It was interesting and expertly narrated. It was steamy hot and kept my attention.

I think that the Duke and his explosive personality just needed more resolution. He was a underlying influence in the first two. Some of that drama even used in this book. Yet it just resolved with little reflection and no excitement or fanfare, he needed more!
