In a small Midwest town, twenty-eight-year-old Krista Larson has made her mark as the youngest female police chief in the country. She’s learned from the best: her father, Keith, a decorated former detective. But as accustomed as they are to the relative quiet of their idyllic tourist town, things quickly turn with Krista’s ten-year high school reunion. With the out-of-towners holed up in a lakefront lodge, it doesn’t take long to stir up old grudges and resentments. Now a successful TV host, Astrid Lund, voted the “Girl Most Likely to Succeed” is back in town

This is a great mystery by Max Allan Collins. Dan John Miller gives an amazing performance, as always. Someone is killing members of a high school class around their 10 year reunion. It’s up to fellow classmate and Chief of Police Krista Larsen to try and solve the case. You can’t go wrong with this exciting mystery.

I was very excited for this new Mike Hammer Mystery. Max Allan Collins does a great job of continuing the Mickey Spillane adventures. Like it says in the forward this one is a little more like the tv series compared to some of the “revenge” novels. I hope Max keeps writing them because they just keel getting better. I was also excited to see Stefan Rudnicki being the new narrator following John Dan Miller and of course Stacy Keach. Stefan has an amazing voice and is a perfect choice to take up the Mike Hammer mantle. I highly recommend this new Mike Hammer mystery!

Memphis, 1975. "Raunchy" doesn't begin to describe Max Climer's magazine, Climax, or his all-hours strip club, or his planned video empire. And evangelists, feminists, and local watchdog groups all want him out of business. But someone wants more than that, and has hired a killer to end Max's career permanently. Only another hit man - the ruthless professional known as Quarry - can keep Climer from becoming a casualty in the Sexual Revolution.

Another great Quarry adventure from Max Allan Collins. They are all so great I would hate to have to rank them. This one really gets into Quarry’s mind at the end and we see a moment when maybe Quarry could have left the business and led a normal life. This is a Broker story, so it takes place when Quarry works for the Broker. The Memphis setting adds a lot to the story and was probably chosen to match up with the Cinemax tv series. Stefan does an amazing job as the voice of Quarry.

On October 30, 1938, rising radio star Orson Welles boondoggles the American public into believing that Martians have attacked Earth. With his clever adaptation of The War of the Worlds, the great showman proves he can get away with anything - maybe even murder. Minutes before the fictitious invasion goes live on the air, a dead body is found in the studio and the polarizing Welles is the obvious suspect.

Only Max Allan Collins could have written this great book. If you love Orson Welles, you will love this mystery that takes place on the night of the famous Mercry Theatre on the Air broadcast. This is my favorite of Max’s Disaster Mystery Series. If you like the Shadow and old time radio it’s sure to be yours too. Dan John Miller does a great job as always.

Quarry is forced out of retirement one late night to save a kidnapped girl. The adventure that follows is full of twists and turns. It is really interesting to see an older Quarry and what may be his final contract. Stefan is really great. I have really come to love him as the voice of Quarry in these audio books. This novel was also adapted into a movie called “The Last Lullaby.”

Comics kill. Or so the esteemed Dr. Werner Frederick would have people believe - people like the Congressmen holding hearings on banning violent crime and horror "funny books". And when the crusade provokes a most un-funny murder, Jack Starr - comics syndicate troubleshooter - has no shortage of suspects. Was it the knife-wielding juvenile delinquent or the naked seductress? Perhaps a frustrated publisher or an outraged cartoonist. Or was it a comic book reader…?

This is the third novel in the Jack Starr/Starr Syndicate Mysteries by Max Allan Collins. As you would expect from Collins, it is an exciting mystery and he makes you feel like you’re in 1950s New York City. Dan John Miller does an amazing job of performing the audio book. I just wish the other two Starr Mysteries were also on audio book!

Crime fiction readers know Quarry - the ruthless killer for hire from Max Allan Collins' acclaimed novels - but where did Quarry's story start? For first time ever, the best-selling author of Road to Perdition takes us back to the beginning, revealing the never-before-told story of Quarry's first job: infiltrating a college campus and eliminating a professor whose affair with one of his beautiful young students is the least of his sins.

Great novel by Max Allan Collins and great performance by Stefan. As you can tell by the title this is Quarry’s first contract under the broker. It involves Quarry doing a stakeout of a college professor to get back a manuscript. All sorts of twists and turns follow. It is one of my favorite Quarry adventures.
