Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse. Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland - known as The Death Shop - are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild - a savage - and her only hope of staying alive.

I could not listen as the narrator’s voice did not match the characters and it was so distracting. I’ve heard this narrator read other books. She is just so-so. This was quite a disappointment.

I saw this book at a store. Read the back & as with most books, I wrote down the title to see if I could find it on Audible. I was happy to find it. I did hesitate to purchase it due to a review I saw. So, so glad I followed my own instinct! Kept me hooked from the beginning. And, a total bonus! Therese Plummer did the narration.

So, you know that you really are enjoying a book when you find yourself the object of the weirdo stare! I laughed out loud so many times while listening, that I don't even know how many times I received the weirdo stare. I would hope the authors would continue on their skewed events of history with other books like this. Katherine Kellgren was AMAZING!

The flu pandemic of 1918 took millions of souls within a few short weeks. Except it wasn't flu, and death gave them back. Seventeen-year-old Ella copes the best she can by caring for her war-injured father, scrubbing the floors, and slaying the undead that attack the locals. Like rats, these vermin spread pestilence with every bite. Ella's world collides with another when she nearly decapitates a handsome stranger - one who is very much alive.

Great story. Loved the fact that it timing of the story was set right after WW I. Historical yet modern Cinderella story.
It would have been just perfect if there had been a different narrator. Some of the character voices were just obnoxious.

The story is entertaining and I will finish the series. That being said, the narrator WOW!! I am not sure if her native tongue is English. There are so many mispronounced words that every time I turn the book on I can make a list of at least four words that are mangled. Again, I said at least four words. It is extremely distracting. As well as a disservice to the author.

I don't know about all parents but this parent thought this book was way over the top on the sexual scenarios and teen angst about sexual situations. The book could have been good. If you are a parent that wants what is best for your child, this is not the book for your child to listen to.

In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world - as they know it - apart.
