Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war - and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army. Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from best-selling and acclaimed author Holly Black.

fitting end to an excellent series

This has been one of the best book series I've read this year. I thoroughly enjoyed following the struggle of Darro and his people and watching him grow into a man who actually lived for more. I finished it 3 days ago and I'm still reflecting on it. I don't want to give away the ending, so I won't say what happened, but I will say that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 (which I gave the other two) because I did not agree with the author's ending. A person who has known suffering all their lives would not choose what his did in the end no matter what the greater good for the society is. Sorry, but I just didn't buy it. This book could have easily been broken down into two stories or left unended to continue the struggle with the next generation or another group who also feels oppressed. It did not need to have to close ended finality that it did.
