Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am an avid reader of anything Tudor, and this is one of my absolute favorite books. The perspective of Cromwell is refreshing since most other books are written about or from the view of one of the Tudors themselves. I love the ease with which the author weaves everyday details of life in the period to the more documented events in history. The most surprising aspect of this book for me was the humor. The narrator delivers an amazing performance that enhances the quick wit and dry humor I believe the author was trying to imbue Cromwell's personality with. I am listening to this book for the third time and still find myself caught off guard with satirical quips that I missed before. I also found the story of Cromwell's life very intriguing and would definitely love to read more about him. This book is just an overall pleasure to listen to.

Great continuation of the story. After the last book I was on tenterhooks the first hour with regards to the characters (if you've read it, you'll understand why - no spoilers), it is amazing how quickly and seamlessly the author weaves old and new characters into his story. The plots never disappoint and I'm ALWAYS left wanting more at the end.
This genre is never really about the actual "zombies/plague" etc, it's about how the characters evolve and what life is like in the midst of such things. David Achord brings these aspects together so well.

Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

YES, this narrator can make even a bad book easy to listen to, thank goodness I haven't come across that situation yet.

Any additional comments?

The plot intrigued me, and I LOVE the narrator so I gave it a shot. What a ride! I'm a huge Vince Flynn and Brad Thor fan so I crave action, intrigue, and high concept socio-political plots. This book is fantastic. The crazy thing is it's pretty much TRUE. I spent some time online researching the events and people, and for the most part it's REAL. The story is non-stop which is a lot to say since it's quite a long book, but it was over too soon for me. I wish I would've known that this is a follow up to another book "The Power of the Dog" which I'm in the middle of now. I'm loving both books. This book is great on it's own, but I'm glad I'm listening to the first one which is giving me some backstory. Listen to these books, you won't be disappointed.
