Tess Monihans journey thru the back allies of Baltimore continues with a twisted story of politics and mayhem. Tess meets more interesting Baltimore natives, both rich and not so rich, mysterious and ordinary. The richness of the characters continues to build in this interesting and satisfying addition to the series.

Charles Stross builds a new series with Empire Games. Expanding on the world he created in the Family Trade series, a new generation of paratime travelers walk between parallel universes. The year is 2020. It's 17 years since the Revolution overthrew the last king of the New British Empire, and the newly reconstituted North American Commonwealth is developing rapidly, on course to defeat the French and bring democracy to a troubled world.

This is a continuation of the excellent trader series 20 years on and some of the old characters make brief appearances! The narration was excellent. The end was abrupt and the story unresolved as this was clearly only part 1 in a multi-part story. If you are in it for the long haul, you will not be disappointed.

Zoë Merrick lived an ordinary life until late one night, she was brutally attacked and left for dead. She survived, saved by a stranger who witnessed her undergo a physical transformation. That's not the only thing that's different. Zoë is unable to control an unexplainable energy coursing through her body. Justus De Gradi is a man who can teach her that control. He's handsome, arrogant, and not entirely human. He reveals that she is a Mage - an immortal made of light, not magic. Engaging characters. Imaginative world building. I listened to the audio version and the narrator's voice added depth to the listening experience. Can't wait to listen to the next book!
