It is a welcomed and convicting wake up call that the Lord proclaims here through His Word, highlighted by pastor Platt. Christ definitely calls every created person to a radical life, at least in comparison to the world, and by in large, the publicized Christian church. Platt here, provides a biblically-centered alarm clock buzz, a wake up call, one that the Word itself certainly proclaims when studied as a whole. Jesus Himself states in John that “... I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world...” Let us join His body, Platt’s gathering, yours and mine, in praying His blessed sending out of laborers into OUR dying world. I highly recommend hearing this and prayerfully listening to the Spirit as you do. May our Father bless and keep you and yours as you soldier on!

Laszlo provides, as far as once can discern, a transparent view into Google practices in People Operations. Insights into empowering our workforces through performance-commensurate pay-scale while avoiding civil disputes, non-cash rewards, uncomfortable trust to stretch key contributors to new performance levels, and an overall willingness to try new business concepts brought from any level within the organization are great and at the same time not all unique to Google. More so, a philosophy that I appreciate here, is the fact that Laszlo and his co-contributors are very open to what worked and has failed, along with high data validation that is rather unique to the G environment (high multidisciplinary EE numbers and users to test hypotheses and trials). Some of his arguments on heart intent of individuals vs. how we trust and manage performance may not be valid, that said, I do not believe this will impact strategy as suggested. Contrarywise, for example, it is not necessary for me to believe that the primal urge of every human heart is good per se. I still fully expect this intent of my people and should only react negatively where a pattern of harm toward others is observed. Here we must uncomfortably try and understand situations at a deeper level. Trusting for good, even if heart intent varies, will stretch all contributors to strive for action that lifts the team and company. At any rate, if you follow great, if not, don’t worry. I highly recommend the book for all looking to improve holistic performance management toward a continuously improved growth environment in profit or NP companies. You will find many gems here!! Enjoy.

To live is Christ

Paul wrote that “to live is Christ” to people in Philippi, Greece. He wrote this after being beaten and imprisoned, and his words reflected the great love he’d been shown by Christ himself. Christ took the wise and proud scholar of Saul and made him into an amazing and humble servant of all peoples, and gave him a new name, Paul. In this book, Bob shares many modern Paul-like stories that showcase God’s faithful and present loving work and calls and exhorts the body of Christ, the Church, to love. It is a book that supports Christ’s call that we be known for how we love one another. Not a replacement by any stretch for holy scripture, rather, Goff in modern context provides love illustrated. The chapter by by chapter mnemonics like “land the plane” will stick with you. Scripture is heavily paraphrased, less often quoted. I wouldn’t have minded a few more quotes from the sharpest instrument, the Word. All in all, Everybody Always is excellent for anyone seeking to be challenged in how to grow and become who Christ is calling, no, earnestly beckoning, all to become.

Christopher humbly presents well-distilled, Christ focused advice for those striving tirelessly to “do with all their might” what God has called them to. It is all too easy to lose balance and expend more than our earthbound frames can take. Chris’s advice on recognizing the difference between sacrifice and self-harm is excellent as are some ideas to find remedy per advice in Psalm 127:2 and other truths. As a business director myself, this work is excellent for godly CTOs, CEOs, and Pastors alike and possible to listen at 2X within 90 minutes ;-)

Detailed and well researched account of the Wright's spectacular grit to accomplish heavier than air flight. Technical, down to the causes of engineer failure in early flyers, while sustaining interest in the constant drama of competitive threats, family, and international skepticism. Recommend to anyone wanting to learn of human aviation's infancy, or inspiration to focus on long term vision through great obstacles.

Pithy on the distinct call of Christ, Our Father God's peculiar love for his creation. His culminating thought deals with the purpose of Christ that He calls you, his creation, by name rather than name calling. We are inexhaustibly assaulted in the world with news of torment and pain. Some of us feel it more than others. Ravi deals with suffering and the dead end of ethics for ethics sake, the end of all religious systems, save that of Christ. Certainly worth a listen if you are weary of the same old news ads and new age promises of hope that turn up unfulfilling.

This should be a must read for new, especially primary, teachers and family care physicians for that matter. Are you a long time physician? Attending plenty of continuous ed. But rarely applying new aspects to your practice? Applying the keys of Deliberate practice provided cannot fail you. As a research scientist with engineering training myself, we were encouraged through lecture and laboratory practicals to engage in Deliberate practice at Purdue University. It works. The book is a little (deliberately ;-) repetitive on examples, but he is effective in driving the principles home. Parents will also find it very useful on how to encourage children, lead them from external reward prompting toward a long term system of internal reward.... and it gives some gage of the rigor and time required. Enjoy!

Packer pulls on many who have come before him: of course Moses, David, Paul.... Christ, to highlight the importance of seeking His face (Psalm 27), knowing him well toward assurance and effectiveness. A quick and worthwhile read for certain. I particularly found his treatment of the positive and faithful aspects of God's character in wrath, severity and jealousy both challenging and useful.
