We live in a world of great and increasing complexity, where even the most expert professionals struggle to master the tasks they face. Longer training, ever more advanced technologies - neither seems to prevent grievous errors. But in a hopeful turn, acclaimed surgeon and writer Atul Gawande finds a remedy in the humblest and simplest of techniques: the checklist.

Interesting, informative, could use more...

I hoped to see more information on creating and refining effective process checklists, and the systems used by Dr. Gawande himself.

Since this is not necessarily a how to book, and there is still quite a bit of useful information in it, I still consider this a 4 star read.

Drives home the importance of using checklists, even when you don't feel they're necessary.

What if charisma could be taught? For the first time, science and technology have taken charisma apart, figured it out and turned it into an applied science: In controlled laboratory experiments, researchers could raise or lower people's level of charisma as if they were turning a dial. What you'll find here is practical magic: unique knowledge, drawn from a variety of sciences, revealing what charisma really is and how it works. You'll get both the insights and the techniques you need to apply this knowledge. The world will become your lab, and every person you meet, a chance to experiment.

This book provides a good set of tools for building your own personal charisma.

While most of these exercises can be found elsewhere, it's nice to have them all in one concise little book.

I'll be recommending it.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the amount of data Dave uses to backup his findings and suggestions - especially when it comes to toxins and inflammation, two areas where my knowledge was shockingly deficient.

Even though I thought I was doing everything right, it turns out there's a lot more to food storage and preparation.

For example, I didn't know that certain cooking methods will damage proteins, and create toxins in the blood.

Fascinating stuff.

I'm a bulletproof coffee fan. Now I'm putting the rest of Dave's suggestions to the test.

The jury's still out, but yesterday (my first fully compliant day on the diet) brought incredible focus and clarity to my mental game.

So far, so good.

I'd recommend the book to anyone interested in learning more about how diet affects mental and physical performance.
