I had bought this book ages ago and never actually read it so i figured the audio version would be a good way of ticking it off my "to read list". I didn't realize it was abridged but after finishing it i don't think it would have mattered. I'm not a fan of so called "chick lit" and this type of book is why. I am all for light fluffy reading that you use to escape daily life but this character was just vapid and unlikeable to me. I was hoping very early on she'd fall off a yacht and drown in the Atlantic. Spoiler alert, that didn't happen. I can see it's appeal and i, in no way, begrudge someone liking this type of book. More power to you. Just not my thing.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

This book definitely had it's creepy moments. I found myself shuddering at the thought of this creepy old man (i was picturing "the gentlemen" the episode "Hush" of Buffy) riding around kidnapping kids and taking them to Christmas land. Definitely not as kid friendly as the nightmare before christmas.

I'm a big Jacqueline Carey fan so when i heard she wrote an urban fantasy book that was not as epic as the Terre D'Ange books i was all in (i love all those books but they take dedication to get through). I love Daisy's character and was immediately drawn into the world. It's not as dense as some of Carey's other works but that's what i like about it. This is definitely a series i could get used to but it's only a trilogy like most (all?) of Carey's work :(

Ok, i get that this is a "romance" book and not contemporary fiction or urban fantasy but good lord. I don't really have much to say about this book except how in the world is the guys thighs the size of her waist??? either he's some freakshow monster or this woman wears victorian corsets and has the waist of a barbie. I could have gone without wasting my time on this book.

Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

I kept hearing how this book was like Harry Potter for grownups so I decided to pick it up. It definitely didn't disappoint in that it was definitely a more adult grittier take on a group of magical kids going to magic school and what happens after they graduate. take out the magic and add in drugs and this could have been a contemporary novel easily. I'm looking forward to where these characters will go in the next books.

I had seen this book floating around and decided to pick it up. I was super into the idea about a character being my age when they discover their powers (because i'm still waiting on mine!) but i HATED how she changed completely halfway through and every decision she made became centered around her relationship. To the point where one of her powers manifested because of the loss if him. Major respect lost for turning an extremely intelligent, independent, female character and turning her into a walking cliche. I feel obligated to continue the series just in case it gets better but i'm in no rush.

First off, free is a great price! I was surprised that such an all star cast would be part of a product that's offered free of charge but i'm assuming there will be a price at some point. I really enjoyed all the stories though. Enough so that i've started to read the Drizzt saga and am super happy about it!
