Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but longstanding enmities dividing the Rhune make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods? The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind.

Just wanting you to know that this review is for the whole book, not just the first recorded "part" one or "part" two. It is important because I would give part one a 2-3 star rating and I'd give part two a 3-4 stars. The novel's novel approach to writing was remarkable, but that along with the narrator taking time to get her characters across, makes for a lower score. Book 2 in this could be fantastic!

Yea, now this series has a much improved Reader! What a difference it makes. This story was so much more engaging than book 1 probably all due to the performance. The reason I gave the story a 3 and not a 4(it's really hard to ever get a 5 from me) is because of the overly detailed "shot by shot" repetitious wordiness of some of the battles. Once you're already into this series, we don't need to hear each and every icicle particulate goes! But a fantastic story all in all. And again, great Reader performance. Much improved!

...but not so great in audio. There were so many characters that it was difficult for the reader to maintain a unique vocalization for each. Also, if you were looking at the text, it was probably indicated by paragraphing, italics, spaces between text, etc... that the author was switching characters, time, and/or place. Unfortunately, the reader of this book wasn't able to to the greatest job of this. Eventually it became tedious for me to always be trying to make sense of who was talking and what their differences were. Again, the action and story line is good, maybe even great, but not so well performed in THIS particular audio version. My advise- definitely read it after borrowing it from your local library!

Was delighted to find that I either missed or misinterpreted some of what I read/heard the first time, so even the 2nd reading was really exciting and emotional and new! A Must-Read for sure!!!

Great story that kept moving along with new twists and turns I didn't always see coming. The trick was that some of the plot WAS just as you'd expect, and just when you think you have it figured out, total surprise plot twist. Exceeded expectations because of expected similarities to other books, but the UNexpected kept me engrossed! Loved it.

Don't miss this book or judge it by its cover and bland description! I put off reading this for months but finally decided to give it a try. Then it became a one day book! Totally engrossing, upsetting, funny and touching. What an amazing story teller this author is. A brief warning about the content of sexual abuse/rape would have been appreciated though. Some people are especially sensitive to this subject matter.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

I had to go back and reread some of this book to finally understand everything becauae the narration was so deep and somewhat monotonous... I'd fall asleep every 15 mins. And loose my place becauae it would keep going. Even when I used the sleep timer it was a lot of work. That said, this has a really good story that takes awhile to actually get to, but it's worth it. With a better reader or maybe even a male/female team, the enjoyment factor would easily raise ratings!
