I wish authors and researchers would just keep to the research at hand and not have to say and therefore you must do these liberal things to make depression and anxiety better. I am starting to wonder if this is some kind of plan for people to research Neuroscience emotion psychology and then say this is why you must become liberal. The last three books I've read on the subject all did the same thing. and like this book which really was a great book that the author felt obligated to put his political bent within the research. he was very easy to listen to and very engaging and I can understand why his view of the world can cause his depression and anxiety. what I missed was maybe possibly having an understanding that not everybody in the world thinks like that and we all have different ways of mitigating depression and anxiety and he might want to consider a big portion of the world he left out. if you can put on your liberal filters I think you will be able to pick up pick out enough good research to make it worth a listen or read.

Emotions feel automatic to us; that's why scientists have long assumed that emotions are hardwired in the body or the brain. Today, however, the science of emotion is in the midst of a revolution on par with the discovery of relativity in physics and natural selection in biology. This paradigm shift has far-reaching implications not only for psychology but also medicine, the legal system, airport security, child-rearing, and even meditation.

I really enjoyed this book until I got to the chapter on The Law... and then she took a knee. it quickly became apparent that she was a social justice Warrior and was going to use this work for social justice. that totally turn me off and made me question everything that I had listened to up to that point. she talked about getting rid of the jury system the Second Amendment and all kinds of other social leftist ideas. why can't the author's just stay with the science and leave their opinions out of it? I will most probably go back and review the beginning of the book now that I know the authors social and political bent.
