Jax is by far my least favorite entry in this series. It is ok, but the sex to story ratio is way off. Don’t get me wrong, i like a little steaminess, but the sex in this series has become like an old married couple, very predictable and just not exciting any more. In this case, just when I am really getting into the story, darn it, here comes another sex scene I have to wade through - or fast forward through, since I can’t fake a headache. The plot is decent, and the narrator is great, but I would like the book a lot better with about half the sex. I would say skip this book, but it has enough character development from other books in the series and a good enough story that it is worth reading. Just be ready and close your eyes and think of England during all the uninspired sex scenes.

The narration was very good, and the premise and story itself was better than average for a shifter paranormal. The only real problem is the way it ends...or rather doesn’t end, but leaves you hanging so much, I had to double-check to make sure I had downloaded all of the book. I seriously thought there must have been a technical problem of some kind, since books just don’t end that abruptly. Turns out this book does.
Since the book was decent, I will probably get the next book in the series, but I hate feeling “forced” into it, rather than looking forward to it.

If you could sum up Into the Fire in three words, what would they be?

Old, New, & Awesome!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Into the Fire?

Ian is back! and the scenes where he stands toe to toe with Vlad are awesome! Ian is such a great scoundrel you love to hate him, but every once in a while you get a glimpse of that special something he has - that makes him more than comic relief and makes you realize why characters like Menchares and Bones have kept him around so long.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Ms. Gilbert has narrated most of Jeaniene Frosts' audiobooks and she always does a stellar job. If I were to have any constructive criticism (and this is the only one I can think of) she tends to get a little shrill and stays there on that one note when her female characters are in a desperate situation. The male characters' seem to have a better tonal variety when they are in similar situations.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I DID listen to this book all in one sitting...then I re-listened at a more leisurely pace to catch the details I missed the first time.

Any additional comments?

I love Vlad, Leila, and the new characters I have met in int Night Prince series, but it was a special treat to get to hear from old favorites like Ian and Menchares.

Where does Silence Fallen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am a big fan of Briggs Mercy Thompson series and her Alpha & Omega series that is set in the same universe. I think Silence Fallen is one of the better entries in the Thompson series it explores Mercy and Adams' relationship a little further and gives us a little more of a peek into Mercy's' abilities with ghosts. It also introduces us to several interesting new characters in Europe that up until now have only been mentioned in other books in Briggs universe.

What other book might you compare Silence Fallen to and why?

The closest audiobooks by another author I would compare Silence Fallen to are probably the Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter. These two authors series are very similar in some ways. Both series are Urban Fantasy, both of the main characters Jane and Mercy are Skinwalkers, both characters know very little of their skinwalker heritage and abilities, both are Native American, and both series have other supernatural archetypes like Werewolves, Vampires, Fae, and more...The main difference to me is the "tone" of the books, Briggs series has a little more humor and lightheartedness in between the action and dire situations. Hunters' Yellowrock series has a slightly darker tone.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

Ms. King is a great narrator. She is very skilled at differentiating the different characters "voices"

Any additional comments?

Silence Fallen is a strong entry in the Mercy Thompson series...a definite must read for fans. If you are a fan and you have not read any of the Jane Yellowrock series - give it a try, there is a good chance you will enjoy them as well.

I am a huge fan of the author, and the narrator Susan Ericksen. All the characters have become so real over the series. This storyline was good, just not up there with the best in the series. The bad guy was kind of obvious and weak, and the plot seemed familiar - almost like it had been done before. Everyone has an off day, ms Roberts off day is still better than most on their best day.

The Cat's Meow. Lord Byron thought he was a scream; the fashionable matrons tittered behind their fans at a glimpse of his hard form, and nobody knew where he came from. His startling eyes-one gold, one blue-promised a wicked passion, and his voice almost seemed to purr. There was only one thing a woman thought of when looking at a man like that. Sex. And there was only one woman he seemed to want. Lilac.

Would you listen to Numbers again? Why?

Yes, but that may just be me. I often re-listen to the books I enjoy the first time - especially when they have a good narrator. Ms Chambers does a great job with the New Species series .

Which character – as performed by Vanessa Chambers – was your favorite?

Kate - the ex-FBI agent turned new species mate has a great scene in the second book of this set...I would not want to go up against her. My favorite character of all is the female new species Breeze - she is always great and very funny. I look forward to her cameos throughout the series - I would love to see her have her own story some day - maybe she will fall for a human male some day? That would be fun! In the first book I LOVED to HATE the mother, she was a great character. I would have liked to have seen that storyline develop into something more - she seemed like the perfect type of character to make trouble for the New Species.

Any additional comments?

I was surprised that this was actually a compilation of two unrelated New Species stories as opposed to a single story. The second book is by far the better of the two, it is a longer more fully developed story, plus it is different from most of the other New Species storylines - a refreshing twist. That is not to say the first book is not good - it is just much shorter and it seems to resolve a little too quickly and easily - there seemed to be some interesting possibilities with the mother - but everything just resolved quickly and easily.
