This book is riveting. It’s a ‘page turner’ so to speak. The story telling is very well done and flows beautifully. But it’s also a true story. So it gives so much hope as to what we are capable of. Of what we can overcome. Highly recommend to anyone. You don’t need to be an addict or a recovering addict to appreciate what Tiffany’s journey can reach you. It’s incredibly brave of her to share her story with all of us. Her narration was also very well done. To hear her own story in her own voice gives it an extra level of impact.

I know some reviews mentioned they didn’t like the Spanish, but it was true to the main character! And some mentioned not having two narrators like in the previous two novels, but one voice was true to this storyline! Well written. Well performed. Worth every penny or credit you spend. If you enjoy crime novels you will love this book!

Griping from start to finish. No one can beat this author for attention to detail. Narrator does a fantastic job with these books. You can tell whose speaking but nothing sounds false. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good detective story, a thrilling read, or just a good book!

I want to give this book 5 stars. I love Rick Riordan and eagerly anticipate each new book. But I can’t, this book broke my heart. Still well written. Still the despair mixed with humor that keeps me coming back for more. And I will be back I’m sure. But I’m going to need time. I can’t say more without spoiling so I will say I loved this installment and hated it and you will see why. If you’re a fan, I’m sure you’ll feel the same.

Another stellar listen from Dan Brown. The plot is gripping and I didn’t want to “put it down” so to speak. The narration is excellent as well, doesn’t over shadow the story, manages to do accents and different characters in a way that you can tell who is speaking but isn’t annoying.

My only complaint is that there weren’t as many clues to be solved to lead to the next step in this one. That’s one of the things I loved about The Di Vinci Code. But it’s only a minor concern and didn’t take away from the overall excellence of the novel.

Would highly recommend

I thought that the book did s really good job of portraying small town America and delving into what can happen when something isn't right. The characters were very well written. It was interesting to see the story from different perspectives.

Kevin Clay did a great job narrating. He kept you in the story with believable renditions and didn't pull you out with over the top voices.

This was a great true crime listen. The details were all there to bring the tale to life for the listener. As an avid true crime fan it was missing a certain something that would cause me to give 5 stars instead of 4, a little dramatic flair to the writing that makes it a "can't put down" kind of listen. But it was very well done, well researched, and definitely not boring. I would recommend for any true crime fan, or someone just starting to listen to the genre.

Kevin Pierce is a master narrator, he never gets less than 5 stars from me. He always has the perfect tone for the storyline and characters.

Would you listen to Smooth Talker: Trail of Death again? Why?

Yes

I had listened to the authors "No Stone Left Unturned" so I was familiar with one of the cases in this book. It was very interesting to have case tied in with others perpetrated by the same criminal. That perpetrators criminal movements were laid out well in this book. The author gives fantastic detail and ties in the cases together very well. As a huge fan of true crime I found "Smooth Talker" to be a very well written portrayal of the string of crimes that is known to be done by the perpetrator. The descriptions of the victims and their lives at the time of the crimes and well as family and friends emotions and reactions gave soul to the story. The details of the crimes and criminal gives goose bumps and the complete soullessness of that man.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Smooth Talker: Trail of Death?

How difficult it was to track the perpetrator down and lock him up gave me chills

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

I absolutely adore Kevin Pierce's narration. He is pitch perfect always and especially in the true crime genre is a perfect narrator who provides a great listening experience. There is nothing else that needs to be said about the narration. It's simply spot on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really. It was well written and performed but not totally "edge of my seat" plus since I knew the details of the Michelle Wallace case there wasn't much new in that part for me.

Any additional comments?

The only thing lacking for me was the beginning of the story. How and where did the criminal grow up? Did he have family? Etc. Those kinds of details build context around a killer that to me is one of the most fascinating aspects of the true crime genre. Perhaps those details are not know in this case. But that was the only thing to knock this book down to 4 stars for me. Other than that it was a great example of true crime writing.

As a true crime enthusiast I was a bit skeptical to try a novel, but this book was fantastic. It was gritty and real the way that real life is, not always pretty, not everyone gets a happy ending. It was also a page turner. I had to know what happened next. Chocked full of clues, I didn't want to kiss a single word. Great book.

As for the narration, it's Kevin Pierce, he is suburb and probably half the reason I gave this book a shot. So glad I did!
