I think this would have been a better read book than listened to book. The story was good, a little predictable, a few places were eye roll worthy. The performance started out very stiff and was apparently a first time. The reading was stiff and forced and quick. It got much better a couple chapters in and was decent by the end.

This was an excellent book. It is much more of a period piece moving through the lives and times of the people in the family and surrounding town with some horror laced in. Excellent characterization, you want to follow each one to their very end to see what becomes of them. Excellent research and recreation of the time periods it goes through. You even come to have an attachment to the monsters of the story. For they are monsters in the original meaning of the word that would have been the definition during that time period. No other narrator would have done this book justice. All together well structured and performed.
