I read and listen to a ton of gay romance and M/M novels and even though that doesn’t give me credentials as a bonafide critic I have to say that this book was one of the weakest I ever came across.
I listened to it as an audiobook. And to be honest I only got through the whole story with the aid of 1.5 speed.
The story itself was not compelling as the two protagonists lacked depth and likability. The writing was uninspired and I could barely stand the catch words and phrases that kept lamely repeating throughout.
The narration was poor. Again, no offense to the narrator or editor, but really? Wow
Mostly dull and monotonous rambling lacking dramatic timing. Add to that some seriously effeminate exclamations and you can make any semi thrilling scene boring or a serious turn off. Which further added to the disconnect between listener and storyline.

Sad. The overall premise held promise and the Noah character at least could have been compelling.
Again. This one failed me on every level.
Best thing I could say about it that I made it to the end. And that was a struggle.

Miro Jones is living the life; he's got his exciting, fulfilling job as a US deputy marshal, his gorgeous Greystone in suburban Chicago, his beloved adopted family, and most importantly, the man who captured his heart, Ian Doyle. Problem is, Ian isn't just his partner at work - Ian's a soldier through and through. That commitment takes him away from Miro, unexpectedly and often, and it's casting a shadow over what could be everything Miro could ever dream of.

This isn't the fist book by Mary Calmes I read, not even her first series. But the protagonists Miro and Ian are my all time favorites.
A throughly enjoyable mix of thrilling action and sizzling hot love, not to mention the smoking sex scenes make this series perfect mm romance/ criminal procedural suspense novel.

And who better to read it than Tristan James, whose voice just makes me weak, and whose narration gives this series and all the books he reads for us so much more life, depth and thrilling eroticism.

An enthusiastic 3 thumbs up from a well read fan of not just the author but general mm genre!
Loooooooove it. More please!!! Pretty please😘

While I had to suspend believe about the attraction and patience Josh has for the borderline autistic Brandon, the story was superficially nice and somewhat entertaining.
As a book I may not have finished it but Nick J Russo has a talent to make you want to hear more. One of my top 3 narrators!
Without him I wouldn't have made it to the end.
The interesting plot twist is a 22 plus year old gay genius associate professor with no social life or social skills. And, as expected, he is a complete blank slate when it comes to having a boyfriend. From learning how to kiss, getting it on and eventually going all the way was the one redeeming part of this story. Though again, with character development and story line a bit far fetched.

As an avid sci-fi and Fantasy reader I stumbled onto this series and found the best new fantasy epic in a long long time. Can't wait for book 3.
Kel Kade is the dark horse of new fantasy literature and will easily become a household name with time. Huge talent in spinning a gripping and highly intelligent new tale, I think you will find, that if the series continues with the same quality, this author an equal a George R R Martin or a Robert Jordan.
3 enthusiastic thumbs up!

After having read this book several times over, I nevertheless discovered new intricacies, finally hearing every word rather then scanning every line.

The epic story is difficult to summarize and that is not what I want to impart. Instead I want to praise the highly imaginative storyline that is enveloped in such beautiful details that it is not difficult for the reader to see all the new alien worlds, or dimensions clearly.

One of my favorite fantasy/magic stories since I first read it about 25 years ago!
