Stuart Eizenstat was at Jimmy Carter’s side from his political rise in Georgia through four years in the White House, where he served as chief domestic policy adviser. He was directly involved in all domestic and economic decisions as well as in many foreign policy ones. Famous for the legal pads he took to every meeting, he draws on more than 7,500 pages of notes and 350 interviews of all the major figures of the time to write the comprehensive history of an underappreciated president - and to give an intimate view on how the presidency works.

Excellent audio book. Not much has been written about the Carter administration. Eizenstat did an excellent job of covering both high and low points in our history.

Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

Meacham's book came at the right time for me. With the present disaster in the White House and the pathetic Congress it gave hope that we has weathered dark times in our past. We have to stop taking democracy for granted and fight like demons to preserve it. Lets hope we don't end up like Hungry, Poland or Turkey.

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

American diplomacy is under siege. Offices across the State Department sit empty while abroad, the military-industrial complex has assumed the work once undertaken by peacemakers. We're becoming a nation that shoots first and asks questions later. In an astonishing account ranging from Washington, DC, to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Korea in the years since 9/11, acclaimed journalist and former diplomat Ronan Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American history.

A well written and meticulously researched book showing the death of diplomacy we are experiencing under the Trump administration. Makes one wonder if it can every be rebuilt. After listening to this book, Madeleine Albright's book "Fascism: A Warning" makes it hard to sleep at night. Make sure you vote in the next election.

What made the experience of listening to The Crusades the most enjoyable?

Well done. Excellent history of the Crusades. Author had researched the issue very well. It was conducted in a manner that was quite simple to follow. Not easy to do with a complex history.
