Stella's mama never should've put Stella on the church prayer list. With Stella's 27th birthday coming up fast, Nancy desperately wants to see her daughter married and giving her grandbabies. Petitioning heaven seems like a surefire way to get it done. But in Cadillac, Texas, where the gossip's hotter than the city's famous jalapeño peppers, it isn't long before all hell breaks loose.

Within the walls of Truvy's beauty shop are six women whose lives increasingly hinge on the existence of one another. Together, they absorb the passing seasons, just like the weathered wooden structure of the salon "home" that they share.

Once again, Fannie Flagg gives us a story of richly human characters, the saving graces of the once-maligned middle classes and small-town life, and the daily contest between laughter and tears. Fannie truly writes from the heartland, and her storytelling is, to quote Time, "utterly irresistible."

This is a wonderful book! I love Fannie Flagg! She takes me to a simpler time, where it's peaceful, and the greatest disaster is not having enough greens for supper. A place in time that I want to go to, and stay forever. But, since I can't, I escape to the small town called Elmwood Springs as much as I can. It is a precious piece of a long lost time that we ca n never get back, and will be forever regretful. I will read and re-read her books whenever this world gets too much to bear. Sometimes we all need to go back to a better, slower, sweeter time! Thank you Fannie!!

Elmwood Springs, Missouri, is a small town like any other, but something strange is happening out at the cemetery. Still Meadows, as it's called, is anything but still. Funny and profound, this novel in the tradition of Flagg's Can't Wait to Get to Heaven and Thornton Wilder's Our Town deals with universal themes of heaven and earth and everything in between, as Flagg tells a surprising story of life, afterlife, and the mysterious goings-on of ordinary people.

Sylvia has always been one of my favorite authors as she writes very informatively, but also humoriously about a little known subject, that not many authors will touch. She shares with us as much of her own experiences as well as informs us what we may expect in our lives on the other side, and takes away the fear and apprehension that is associated with the end of our time here on earth, and what awaits us. Her books are informative without being dull, full of comfort and compassion,it feels like she is in the room and talking only with you. Very easy and Very good read!
