It's 50 years before the settlement of the city of Ember and the world is in crisis. War looms on the horizon as 11-year-old Nickie and her aunt travel to the small town of Yonwood, North Carolina. There, one of the town's respected citizens has had a terrible vision of fire and destruction. Her garbled words are taken as prophetic instruction on how to avoid the coming disaster. If only they can be interpreted correctly.

I looked forward to every chapter, This series serves to remind us about greed, judgement, stereotypes and how quickly casting judgement on someone based on their looks, how they dress or even how they may come across in intelect isnt always correct and can be hurtful and destructive in the long run. You never know when you could be kicking treasure to the curb....

Nora Pennington, the owner of Miracle Books, believes that a well-chosen novel can bring healing and hope. But she and the rest of the members of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society know that, sometimes, practical help is needed, too. Such is the case with the reed-thin girl hiding in the fiction section of Nora's store, wearing a hospital ID and a patchwork of faded bruises. She calls herself Abilene, and, although Nora and her friends offer work, shelter, and a supportive ear, their guest isn't ready to divulge her secrets.

Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar - at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind. I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin'-hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits. So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord?

It's nice to know that no matter what dimension you're in there's going to be people or creatures or whatever, of all kinds and temperament. It's also refreshing to hear of a goal of communication and understanding from the leadership. If this book has a moral to the story it would be; rather than fight and throw each other under the bus and dealing things with the negative, try and see each other's perspective and understand that everybody probably comes from a different place than you do, so the same communication that might work for you might not work for them. Some people react to things badly because of events in their life, but rather than brush them off as unwilling maybe try a different approach, ask questions, see where they would be coming from. This series basically shows us how to communicate in a world that rapidly is losing that ability

Merlin must have a pretty incredible history and lore. It's crazy to think about other dimensions or plains of existence even though we hear about the possibility in science as well as fantasy. We read about dragons and magic in myth and fantasy, of Mages and magic makers in assorted levels and abilities. There are movies and TV shows about it, but it's surprising how similar they are across the board. As each book leads to the next and we find out who's whose, how terrible people and dragons alike can be to each other...it reminds us to try and be kind whenever possible and when it doesn't seem likely that kindness will work....try again with conviction!

Audie Award, Fantasy, 2016. As the smallest dragon in the Heartstriker clan, Julius survives by a simple code: keep quiet, don't cause trouble, and stay out of the way of bigger dragons. But this meek behavior doesn't fly in a family of ambitious magical predators, and his mother, Bethesda the Heartstriker, has finally reached the end of her patience.
