Cornwall, toward the end of the 18th century. Ross Poldark sits for the borough of Truro as a member of Parliament - his time divided between London and Cornwall, his heart divided about his wife, Demelza. His old feud with George Warleggan still flares, as does the illicit love between Morwenna and Drake, Demelza's brother. Before the new century dawns, George and Ross will be drawn together by a loss greater than their rivalry and Morwenna and Drake by a tragedy that brings them hope....

Vanessa March's husband, Lewis, is meant to be on a business trip in Stockholm - so why does he briefly appear in newsreel footage of a fire at a circus in Vienna, with his arm around another woman? Vanessa flies to Austria to find her husband, inadvertently becoming involved in a mystery that spans three countries...and the famous dancing stallions of the Spanish Riding School. The moonlight flooded the meadow, blanching all colours to its own ghostly silver. The pines were very black.

If you are in anyway a horse person, you had to be laughing when the author had the old piebald prancing and moving to the"Airs Above the Ground" Movements by itself. The old horse would never had done that when he heard the music, sorry!
At that point I tried to continue with the book, but was so disappointed in the antics of the author, I needed to return it to Audible. However, I give her one star for her accuracy of the research of the Lippizaner story and history.

This is a well written, disturbing book by Lisa Jewell. She develops the characters very well so by the end of the book you know them and their hearts . Something that is lacking in this action driven literary world we live in today. If you are unable to deal with child abduction and abuse, I suggest you stay away from this book.

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

What a brilliant concept and a very good start to this story. Then, what happens? I suspect the author herself got confused. The ending was so muddled, I have no idea who did what to whom. To be honest, I am so frustrated with the ending, I don't care enough to go back to listen again to see if I can figure it out.

Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

Without this narrator, I doubt I would be able to give this book a five star review. I was in tears several times as I listened, which is rare. I hope I can find him on other books. I don't think the story would have touched me as deeply without him, if I simply read the book. I go back and forth about the ending , would it have been better if the secret remained untold? I think it might have been. I felt the ending was rushed and forced. Let the secret die with those who kept it all those years.
