Atul Gawande explores how doctors strive for best performance in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. His stories of diligence and ingenuity take us to battlefield surgical tents in Iraq, to labor and delivery rooms in Boston, to a polio outbreak in India, and to malpractice courtrooms around the country. He discusses the ethical dilemmas of doctors' participation in lethal injections, examines the influence of money on medicine, and recounts the astoundingly contentious history of hand washing.

If I was going to suggest an Atul Gawande book, it wouldn't be this one. His others are better. But even at his worst Dr. Gawande is head and shoulders above the best

Like everything by this author, the book is great. The reading/production is only okay though. At times you can tell a word was spliced in from a different reading because the voice is suddenly louder/lower etc then back to normal again. That is distracting

The story seemed to drag on even at 1.25 speed. It sounded more like rambling stories from grandpa than a cohesive book with any sort of message. Get any book by Atul Gawande over this.
