An endearing story of a young girl who arrives in a new town and worries that she will be lonely. But finds her worries are for naught when she befriends a scraggly dirty dog. This is a story with a huge learning curve for readers young and old. What a treasure! We listened to the audio as we traveled with our 10 14-year old grandchildren. We all loved it!

Should be required reading, although fiction—along with Elie Weiss. A former high school teacher, I had students (not from extremist background, but were from conservative, evangelical families) who told me that certain atrocities did not occur in WWII and that the massacre at Tiannem Square in China did not take place, but it was only propaganda put out by our government.
