The story may have been ok, but it was very difficult to tell because the narrator's voice was mournful, slow and rhythmic. The female characters were relatable. The male protagonist was very duty conscious, but not very likeable to me.

I enjoyed the characters in this story even though a couple of them were slightly unbelievable. The narrator mispronounced a few words, which would not have been so bad, but they were food words and this was a story all about food. She had a melancholy way of talking which worked for the sad parts of the story, but didn't do much for the happy parts. Also, she distinctly pronounced any word with a "t" in it, which was distracting. I normally enjoy clear, crisp speech but it didn't seem to work here. I did enjoy her British accent. I'm no expert on the nuances of Brit-speak, but it sounded good to me. Perhaps she has a British background and thus the mispronunciaton of the word "herbs". I would love the recipe for the coconut cake, if it exists.

Like all the Bedwyn men, Aidan has a reputation for cool arrogance. But this proud nobleman also possesses a loyal, passionate heart - and it is this fierce loyalty that has brought Colonel Lord Aidan to Ringwood Manor to honor a dying soldier's request. Having promised to comfort and protect the man's sister, Aidan never expected to find a headstrong, fiercely independent woman who wants no part of his protection, nor did he expect the feelings this beguiling creature would ignite in his guarded heart.
