With nothing but the bankrupt station as severance pay, Director Fujita Hiroko moves to the edge of the galaxy to keep the station afloat as an independent mining operation. When the nearby planet vanishes with her and her survey team still on the surface, hopes of mining are quickly replaced by a more pressing goal: finding a way back to her station.

Carl's looking forward to a quiet life with his soon-to-be wife and the child they're expecting. But when Amy makes a simple request, there's a catch. She wants their wedding on Earth so her mother can be there. For a law-abiding citizen, that would be a pricey but straightforward request. For a band of outlaws, flying into the galaxy's headquarters for law and order would be suicidal...without a plan.

Carl and the crew of the Mobius are back for one final story in the adventure. Carl and Amy want to tie the knot, but can they survive with their records intact and without going to jail when Amy decides to have it on Earth? I found this story to have just the right amount of fun mixed with solid life topics like who should truly be invited to a wedding anyway?

this is the thrilling conclusion(or appears to be) of the original black ocean series. I hope Morin has more to come featuring the cast of characters, they always seem to find just the right amount of trouble.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

The world's old political borders have dissolved. The NAU is civilization's carcass, a nation ruled by two political parties: Enterprise, the sink-or-swim party where each party member has no one else to blame for their starvation or astronomical wealth; and Directorate, whose members have a guaranteed safety net but can never rise above their station.

This took me a little while to "get into" the character's minds and understand the conflict due to the enormous number of POV characters. However, like the Game of Throne series written for science fiction once I had a handle on all the POV characters I fully enjoyed following them through all the twists and turns. Well plotted with many layers of political and socio-economic realities, The Beam is an immersive and complex World. Very Well done!

Two weeks after the end of The Beam's first groundbreaking season, one thing is abundantly clear: the more the world changes, the harder those in power work behind the curtain to keep it all the same. With Shift, the NAU's national election, now just days away, the country's political parties fight even harder to win the citizen's minds—minds that are almost all permanently connected to The Beam, addicted to connectivity more deeply than any drug. Only those with the courage to think for themselves can work to change what seems like a certain future.

Deeply layered world with a fully developed cast of characters that transcend the page to become fully realized people. I love character driven stories with interesting people having to accomplish real goals while hampered by human flaws and situations. The Beam is conceptualized from bottom to top with very few science or other seams to cause issues. I fully enjoyed every minute!
