Despite claims to the contrary, this book is woefully outdated. It actually has anecdotes from the 1950’s and issue outdated terminology. This combined with the narrator’s cloying, preachy voice makes this a terrible audiobook.

Bottom line, this is a reference book and really not the right format for audio.

The White House is the home of the president of the United States, the most guarded, monitored, closely watched person in the world. So how could a US president vanish without a trace? And why would he choose to do so? An unprecedented collaboration between President Bill Clinton and the world's best-selling novelist, James Patterson, The President Is Missing is a breathtaking story from the pinnacle of power.

Frankly, I am surprised that Bill Clinton put his name on this book. It is a run-of-the-mill political thriller. Highlights include its timeliness, especially the intersection with our current political realities. Lowlights come with the narration. While Dennis Quaid has a decent reading voice, his unconvincing range of various characters is so off-putting, that I nearly stopped listening on a few occasions. Of particular offense were his sadly mangled attempts at a German accent, and the placating tone he used for female characters. I was hoping that Clinton’s inclusion in this project would lend increased authenticity, sadly I did not find this to be the case. Overall, I was disappointed with both the book and the audio performance.
