Deacon has an ugly history, a history that broke him, leaving him a ghost of a man. Out of necessity he left the normal world to descend into the criminal world and found he fit. So he stayed. Cold as ice and living off the grid, Deacon has no intention to connect, not with anyone. Then he returns to some remote cabins in the Colorado Mountains and finds they have new owners. One of them is Cassidy Swallow, a young woman willing to work hard to live her quiet dream in a house by a river surrounded by aspen and pine.

This was the best of the series so far, and I ADORE this narrator. Yes, their reunion was too quick and easy in many ways, but it kind of fit them and their relationship, so I can forgive. Plus, we know throughout the book what his history is, even though she doesn't (the opposite of Creed and Silvie!) so it worked for me.

Well worth the credit, and made me feel better about the previous books than I did before, lol.

As others have noted, the narrator's mispronunciations were distracting. Her voice for Raid wasn't distinct enough to me, and in some of the conversations, it became hard to tell who was speaking. Her interpretation of his emotions was also strange... she often had a quiver in her voice, making it sound like he was on the verge of tears... didn't fit the character at all.

The story itself... not a fav of mine. Felt like Raid was rushing her and guilting her into staying with him. Also not a fan of guys who grow up with the plain, shy girl, then fall into instalove after she has a makeover. The h is honestly so forgettable and dishrag that I just finished it and can't remember her name.

Love gram and spot, most of the side characters were fun, although their advice was sometimes iffy lol. Overall the storyline was good but felt rushed. Also, for a women who single handedly furnished full size, hand knitted throws to over 200 stores, she spent almost no time knitting (insert eyeroll).

First, the good… the characters were interesting and had depth, the writing was smooth and descriptive (typical KA!) I enjoyed the use of flashbacks, and really getting to feel the love these two had for each other from the start, and how it evolved. The narrator did a fantastic job.

Next, the not so good… 1) Unresolved plot holes ***** SPOILERS AHEAD ***** Why did her father do all that he did? He was written as completely evil and heartless, so why not kill Creed? It just didn’t make sense. Why didn’t Creed ever follow up on her and check on her? He knew that her father was awful and didn’t care about her… why trust that this psycho who tortured him also told him the truth, just because he promised? HOW was she kept as a slave for 6 years? She said she had a car, but couldn’t get free, but we weren’t told why. Did she ever try to leave? 2) Pacing… the big secret was revealed to the readers little by little, and, for me, that made it hard to understand how Sophie could just immediately forgive and dive whole-heartedly into the relationship. Yes, she knew everything, but since we didn’t, I couldn’t get invested in their second chance. 3) Too much of a good thing… the sex scenes were HOT, but there was so many of them that they lost their impact after a while.

I enjoyed this title, and will definitely continue the series. Overall, I liked Knight's character, and liked his consistency, leading to a non-traditional HEA. Anya was a bit two-dimensional though... I would have preferred her to stand up to him more. She could have been submissive without being passive, and for me, it was too much of the latter. There was also a lot more "telling" than "showing" than I'm used to in a KA book.

Narrator did a fantastic job!!

Personal peeve... "Daddy" talk during sex.... unless the characters are in a consensual daddy/baby/big/little relationship, Daddy-ing during sex just comes off icky.

Felt like I was listening to a different narrator than the other reviewers. You know the saying "I could listen to him read the phone book!"? Well, it was the opposite with this one... He was reading erotic scenes, and it felt like reading the phone book. No excitement, no emotion, just a casual tone that had nothing to do with the cues from the writing (words like "murmured", "seductive", "whispered", "passionately", "commanded", "raspy", etc.

An hour in, and it was a DNF, which is rare with this author. Can't legitimately rate the story, because I couldn't get past the reading (vs a PERFORMANCE).

This was definitely the best book of the series so far, for me. There were a few things that were too simplistic and irrational (Rory's resolution of her issues with her father, for one), but overall, the emotional impact was very strong, and the narration was really good. Made me glad I pushed through some of the previous books and I'm hoping the next ones are as strong.

Lessons hard learned last the longest. Creswell Springs' biggest man-whore, Raider Hannigan, one of Angel's Halo MC's most notorious members, wasn't for me. After years of him holding my heart, I had seen the harsh light of my reality. Raider would never want me...or love me. With a firm resolve to move on, I wouldn't give in. Only one moment of weakness came back to bite me. Now I had a secret. No one needed to know the depths of it all, especially not him.

It's very soap opera-ish, and the narrator for Spider drove me nuts... he sounds like an evil batman spoof. The rest of the narrators are either ok or very good. The stories are fairly shallow, and would be easily resolved if anyone would talk to anyone else, the "MC" is very much in the background, and these are not what I would consider Alpha men for the most part. Not saying alpha men don't cry or sometimes feel unworthy, but... there's a lot of that with these guys. But... at the same time, the characters are interesting and I want to know what happens next. Just be aware that no one's story is fully resolved at the end of "their" book. Each storyline carries through each book (so far), Again, like a soap opera.

I don't know that I would sink any money into this series, but since they're included in the Romance package, I'm invested enough in the characters to go on with the next book.

Pet peeve though... there's nothing romantic, sexy or alpha about calling women "females"... Seriously? It's as hot as the word vagina, i.e., not at all. Woman. She's his woman, not his "female".

Creswell Springs is a small town in Trinity County, California. Population 1,500 - maybe. It's a quiet town, with small town values. Its greatest income is the university just outside of the town limits...and the revenue the local motorcycle club brings in. I was the MC's only weakness. Or so my father use to tell me as I was growing up. Mad Max Hannigan was once Angel's Halos' president. He made the rules and everyone was expected to follow them or come face to fist with the enforcer....

Not a bad story, and it has good bones, but the conflicts and resolutions are fairly shallow. It's part of the Romance package, so I'll continue on to the next book and see how it goes.

Narration is mostly good... I'd like to know which narrator is reading each character though... because there are some that I would probably avoid, and others that I would search out.
