The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out in The Shadow Rising, book four of the Wheel of Time, as The Shadow is rising to cover humankind. In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. It will be something no one expects, not the Black Ajah, not Tairen nobles, not Aes Sedai, not Egwene or Elayne or Nynaeve. For 21-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the man in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

I bought this audiobook after buying the book. I love the story so much! But the narration was meh. The female voice started and stopped at odd intervals. The reading wasn't as smooth as it could have been. The male voice was better, but it was a bit too breathy for my tastes. Also, the female voice when done by the male reader was cringe-worthy.

For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She's had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone's toilet's overflowed, but she's never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa instead, two things are certain: There isn't enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect.

I'm in love with the narration of this book, which is cute in its own right. Living in the Deep South, the accent the narrator affected wasn't quite on the mark. It was exaggerated and too twangy. People don't really speak that way here. HOWEVER, it was so darned cute and really lent itself to the story. Honestly, I don't think the story would have been half as good without that twangy narration. The main character was charming, and though the story was about a murder, it was funny in places. I should feel bad about being amused, but this was an amusing story. :D

This was a cute story. I'm a sucker for best friends turned enemies turned lovers romances. Add in the high school angst and I'm there. The narration was good. I don't think I've heard this particular narrator before. It must be hard for a woman to do whole chapters in a male POV/voice but she did okay.
