The Return of the King is the towering climax to J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy that tells the saga of the hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. In this concluding volume, Frodo and Sam make a terrible journey to the heart of the Land of the Shadow in a final reckoning with the power of Sauron. In addition to narrating the prose passages, Rob Inglis sings the trilogy’s songs and poems a capella, using melodies composed by Inglis and Claudia Howard, the Recorded Books studio director.

Though I did struggle to get through the high-fantasy (names, places, languages, etc), the story at the heart of the trilogy was well worth it. What a beautiful reminder that it’s often the humblest people that have the greatest impact!

This fascinating debut by Karen Lord - a retelling of a Senegalese folktale - earned starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist and won the Frank Collymore Award. When Paama finally leaves her gluttonous husband, she attracts the attention of the undying spirit Patience, who gives her Chance’s Chaos Stick as a gift. But Chance insists that only he should wield the stick’s powers.

Not one to write reviews - but so loved this story and narration. Felt like I was a young child sitting down for story time and an intriguing, unique story was being woven by an elder.
