When Englishman Eyre Walker, newly arrived in Australia, meets the beautiful Charlotte Lindsay, romance quickly blossoms. But theirs is a relationship with fatal consequences. When a late-night tryst is interrupted by Charlotte's irate father, Walker's young Aborigine servant is brutally killed by guard dogs. A man with a conscience, Walker is anxious to atone for the boy's death by giving him a proper Aboriginal burial. And so he begins a marathon journey into the outback to search for Corroboree, the gathering of nomadic tribes for the age-old ritual.

Another favorite to add to my list of favorites by Graham Masterton!
One man's journey, fraught with determination, danger, and mystery, based on tragic circumstances, that sees he and his companions off across the great continent of Australia to fulfill a dying man's last wish.
It's about an ancient nomadic people, that despite the best efforts of the new immigrants to exterminate them, have managed to survive the extreme hell of the desert and the outback. It speaks of the simplicity of their way of life, that binds them to an often hostile land, each other, their tribal ancestors and the Dreamtime.
A story filled with lively, haunting, unforgettable characters, and where the fictional, and the historical meets, blends and becomes legend...

How I love Graham Masterton, his books are sublime and my only wish is that Audible gets more of them! The Scarlet Widow is thrilling and terrifying, a book I found hard to put down and in fact as soon as I finished, I read the next in the series, The Coven. What makes him so masterful in the telling? To me, it's the terrible beauty of the simplicity of plot, that he twists and turns into the macabre, beautiful, and often shocking...painted vivid, with words. Masterton, has an uncanny way of bringing to life the details of character and time. An author whose works linger long after the telling of it.

Emma Gregory's narration added to the story, bringing Scarlet's voice to life. Sublime.

Brilliant story, memorable, disturbing, wonderful!

I've been a longtime fan of Ms Roberts' work, she is a consummate writer and infinitely capable of writing about people and everyday situations, that elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary. Her character development to where in all their richness, they seem to step off the page is simply incredible.
The Witness, in my opinion is a jewel. One of those unforgettable stories of love, life, and the pursuit of happiness, while stirred up with an ample measure of danger, death, mayhem and the gritty thrill of one woman's struggle to stay alive long enough, to reap justice on behalf of those that can't. It's like a car accident, you just can't look away, or in this case stop reading. Intoxicating, riveting and once committed, impossible to not finish.
So, The Witness was a book I devoured in one sitting, I just wish, that like her Eve Dallas character from Ms Roberts J.D.Robb In Death series, she'd made a series of these amazing characters. Brooks, Abigail, Sunny, the towns folk, even and especially Bert, will continue to linger in my mind long after the final notes have drifted away.
Simply a masterpiece of the most sublime storytelling, and wonderfully narrated by the talented voice of Julia Whelan. Highly recommended.

Graham Masterton, is a masterful and consummate storyteller, and I have been a fan of his for many years. With his descriptions and trueisms of the time period and flawless attention to detail. He brings his characters to life in such a way that you expect them to simply step forth from the pages and play out their preordained roles before your very eyes. Truly sublime.
The language is delicious and again, flawless which the narrator Emma Gregory, did a magnificent job of, richly envoking each character. It made the story all the more gripping and marvelous for her extraordinary work.
I love the Widow Scarlet, thoroughly enjoyed Book1, but I must say, this one was even better. The horrors of life she had already endured before returning to England (Read Book 1), only made the new terrors and mysteries, she must solve all the more intriguing. She is a remarkable character, able to see beyond human limitations to the circumstances that are endured, in a time when human life was worth so little. Without judgement she seeks only to help and heal, and to use her scientific mind to seek justice for those unable to claim it for themselves.
Not to be missed.

Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to "rescuing" a family from a nonexistent gunman.

As ever, I was captivated from the first words to the last... Thank you ;)

"Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness… He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires."
