On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. it takes a look at past and current direction of humanity, and boils down human behavior to its most basic meaning. a little hard to explain in a simple review, but a fascinating read/listen.

if you avidly collect patriot books, then this one is more of the same. Bill learning from his dad, and growing under Parcels. The Patriots winning some Superbowls, but losing others, and why. The one difference in this book is that there are more behind the scenes confirmations, and quotes, and insights (both named and unnamed sources) that the other books didn't provide. this gives the book more depth and appeal. thoroughly enjoyed it...though Bill as a student chapters could have been shorter.

Motivational and distinct than what included as as an MP3 with the classic version of DDPY.

Although the narration was fine, it really was slightly less engaging than if DDP narrated himself. Although he read his own forward, that highlighted his absence even more.

other than that, fans of DDP will enjoy learning more about the person and not just his persona.

This is who a journalist should be...pursuit of truth.

This book, though generally about the author, is really a look at America through the lens of world and national politics. What Hersch has exposed over the years is so overwhelming, and entwined with him as a person, that you have to take a giant step away from the book to see the biographical value--that Hersch is a journalist driven by accuracy and truth.

that said, if you like biographies and learning more about what this nation is doing behind the scenes, you will love this book.
