Something has always been missing from my life. A hole that I could never seem to fill. When I accidentally turn a coven of witches into nightmares, I find out what that something is. Magic. And it turns out, I have a crap load of it. As a latent power awakens deep inside of me, I'm exposed to one of the most powerful and corrupt organizations in the magical world - the Mages' Guild. Barely knowing a spell from a few swear words and luck, I won't be able to evade them alone. And that's when I meet him.

Everyone in Bell Harbor thinks career-minded plastic surgeon Evelyn Rhoades needs a husband. Everyone, that is, except for Evelyn…sort of. Even if she did want a husband (which she doesn’t…most of the time), she’d never let something as intangible as fate determine who she marries. No, if she’s going to find someone to spend her life with, she’ll do it scientifically: With a carefully crafted list of criteria and an Internet dating site. But when intoxicated, law-breaking Tyler Connelly crashes into her life by way of a stolen Jet Ski, unruly emotions defy common sense.

Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway.

What would have made Deception better?

I couldn't begin to tell you. I only listen to the first 5 chapters and found it so simplistic, annoying and pitiful I could not continue. I don't know which was worse, the narration with the really silly voices for males/females, the accent or the story line!!

Has Deception turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but it has turned me off any other books by Amanda Quick!!

What didn’t you like about Anne Flosnik’s performance?

NOTHING!! NOT A THING. WILL KEEP HER NAME IN MIND SO AS TO NEVER BY ANYTHING NARRATED BY HER AGAIN. I guess to give her the benefit of the doubt I should say, that maybe the story itself had a lot to do with my dislike for the performance.

What character would you cut from Deception?

ALL??

Any additional comments?

What else can I say?! I normally enjoy any kind of book and I am not too finicky about the reader/narrator, but this book had nothing going for it. I could not get past the 5th chapter!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Kept hearing myself say: Yeah, got it....you said that already...heard that two seconds ago...alright already...Could not even get past half of the book because I was so fed up of the repetiveness (?) of it. It could have been told in 30 minutes, that's how much there was to the story. Nothing we haven't heard before. over and over and over and over!!!!

What three words best describe Erik Bergmann???s voice?

Narrator was just ok.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

annoyance. boredom, disappointment.

Any additional comments?

Doubt that I will buy book #23!!!

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.
